and hundreds of cafés, restaurants and offices.

The Super Jolly V Up Timer is a traditional doser grinder for low-to-medium-volume commercial espresso service. It grinds into a 280 g chamber, and the barista portions coffee with the dosing lever; the timer controls the grinder’s run cycle rather than electronically programming shot doses.

Product Features

Traditional Doser Workflow

Ground coffee collects in a 280 g doser chamber, where each lever pull portions approximately 5.5–8 g for rapid, familiar service.

64 mm Flat Steel Burrs

Mazzer’s 64 mm flat steel burrs produce approximately 2.2 g/s at 60 Hz and carry a recommended replacement interval of about 400 kg.

Mechanical Timer Switch

The timer switch controls how long the grinder runs to refill the doser; it is not an electronic single/double/triple dose programming system.

Stepless Micrometric Adjustment

Continuous collar adjustment gives the barista fine control over espresso grind size without fixed steps.

Commercial Metal Construction

An aluminum die-cast body and serviceable Mazzer components are designed for daily use and long equipment life.

Standard 110–120 V Operation

The 350 W single-phase configuration operates on a standard U.S. 110–120 V circuit, subject to the circuit capacity of the complete bar.

Our honest read

The Coffeeionado Take

Straight answers, before you buy.

Who's It For

  • Traditional espresso bars that deliberately prefer doser-based service.
  • Restaurants and lower-volume cafés with established lever-dosing workflows.
  • Operators replacing an existing Super Jolly doser and wanting familiar service behavior.

It's Right For You If

  • Your bar intentionally uses a traditional doser workflow for rapid lever-portioned service.
  • You want proven 64 mm Mazzer mechanics and do not need electronic dose buttons or on-demand grinding.

Things to Consider

  • Coffee held in the doser chamber is less fresh than coffee ground directly on demand, so staff discipline matters.
  • The timer controls the grinder motor, not the weight or exact dose delivered by each lever pull.
  • This is not a pregrind collection model in Coffeeionado’s workflow sense; it is a conventional doser grinder.

Our Take

Choose this model because you specifically want a doser chamber and lever-based workflow. It is not the electronic V Up in a different trim: the timer controls grinder run time, while dose portioning remains mechanical.

Product FAQ

Is the Mazzer Super Jolly V Up (Timer) a stepless grinder, and how precisely can I adjust the grind size for espresso?

Yes. The Mazzer Super Jolly V Up (Timer) is a stepless, micrometric adjustment grinder. Instead of fixed “clicks,” you rotate the collar smoothly to fine‑tune the grind size, allowing very precise dialing‑in for espresso recipes and small tweaks for different beans or brew ratios.

Can this grinder be used for both espresso and filter coffee, or is it designed mainly for espresso?

It’s primarily designed and optimized for espresso. You can adjust it coarser for moka pot or some manual brewers, but the burr geometry, range, and adjustment system are focused on consistent espresso grinding. If you regularly brew batch filter coffee, you may want a dedicated filter grinder for best results.

What kind of burrs does the Mazzer Super Jolly V Up (Timer) use, and how long do they typically last?

The Super Jolly V Up (Timer) uses 64 mm flat, hardened steel burrs made by Mazzer. In a typical café environment, they often last around 700–800 kg of coffee before a noticeable decline in consistency and flavor; in a lower‑volume or home setting, that can translate to several years of use. Heavier commercial use may require changing them sooner. Burr life depends on roast level, bean hardness, and volume.

How often do I need to replace the burrs, and what are signs that it’s time to change them?

There is no fixed time interval, but many users replace burrs every 1–3 years depending on usage. Signs that it’s time to change burrs include: needing much finer settings than before to get the same shot time, more clumping, inconsistent shot times from the same recipe, a drop in clarity or sweetness, and visible dullness or chips on the burr edges. For heavy commercial use, tracking coffee volume (kg) is the most reliable indicator.

Is the Super Jolly V Up (Timer) suitable for a café, restaurant, or high‑volume environment, and can it keep up during rushes?

Yes. The Super Jolly V Up is a commercial‑grade grinder intended for cafés, coffee bars, restaurants, and other professional settings, and it can comfortably handle moderate to high drink volumes. Its 64 mm burr set and motor are built for repeated espresso shots; for extremely high‑volume shops running multiple baristas and groups, some operators pair it with additional grinders for decaf or alternative profiles.

How fast does this grinder grind, and how long does it take to grind a typical espresso dose?

Grind speed depends on your grind setting and bean type, but a 64 mm Mazzer burr set typically grinds a standard 18 g espresso dose in roughly 6–10 seconds at typical espresso fineness. This is fast enough for continuous service and back‑to‑back drinks without excessive wait times.

Does the Mazzer Super Jolly V Up (Timer) offer hands‑free operation, and what type of dosing does it have?

Yes. The grinder is designed for hands‑free use with a portafilter fork so you can rest the portafilter under the chute while grinding. The “Timer” version uses timed dosing, allowing you to set a grind time to approximate your desired dose. It is not a grind‑by‑weight system, so the dose is controlled by time rather than an internal scale.

Will the Mazzer Super Jolly V Up (Timer) fit under standard kitchen cabinets?

Cabinet clearance depends on your specific installation, but commercial Mazzer grinders are typically taller than many home‑oriented grinders. Before purchasing, compare the listed height of the Super Jolly V Up (including hopper) with the distance from your countertop to the bottom of your cabinets. If space is tight, you may opt for a shorter or low‑profile hopper to improve fit.
