Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

The Bolt 83 is built around two distinct café workflows. Fresh mode grinds one of three timed doses on demand, while Predose mode keeps one or two previously ground doses ready in its chamber for immediate release during peak demand. Its 83mm burrs, 4.2 g/s output, 1.25 kg hopper, and motor fan support high-throughput espresso service.

Product Features

83 mm Tempered Burrs

The 83 mm tempered K110 flat burrs are rated for approximately 1,200 kg and deliver a published 4.2 g/s at the espresso setting. That is roughly a 7 g dose in 1.7 seconds before workflow overhead.

Predose & Fresh Modes

Choose between Predose and Fresh workflows to match service needs: Predose stores 1 or 2 previously ground doses while Fresh dispenses 1, 2 or 3 ground doses on demand. That flexibility speeds service during peaks and keeps shots consistent whether you’re batching or grinding directly to portafilter.

Lock & Load System

Instant access to the grinding chamber with the Lock & Load System lets technicians change or clean burrs without losing the grind point configuration. That reduces downtime and keeps your dosing repeatable after maintenance.

2.8” High Tech Touchscreen

The 2.8” High Tech Touchscreen controls grinding time, work modes and statistics and includes multilanguage display, password-protected menu access and both absolute and relative dose counters. Onboard burr-wear alarms and service stats help maintain consistent dosing and schedule maintenance proactively.

Portafilter Detection & Adjustable Fork

The adjustable fork and chute help center grounds in the basket. When equipped with the optional portafilter detector, the grinder can distinguish the configured dose workflow automatically.

High-Capacity, Customizable Hopper

The standard 1,250 g hopper (options for aluminum base or smoked and customizable hoppers up to 1,800 g) keeps beans on-hand for long shifts and protects them from light. Larger, customizable hoppers reduce refill interruptions and let you brand or tailor the unit to your counter.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • High-volume espresso bars that need faster handoff during predictable rush periods.
  • Operators who want one grinder to switch between three fresh timed doses and one or two ready-to-release predoses.
  • Multi-group cafés that need commercial capacity, a large hopper, and workflow statistics.

It's Right For You If:

  • You need both freshly ground timed doses and an optional speed-first Predose workflow for peak periods.
  • Your bar benefits from 83mm flat burrs, 4.2 g/s espresso output, and a 1.25 kg hopper.
  • You want a touchscreen, dose statistics, service alarms, and flexible portafilter workflows.

Things to Consider:

  • Predose mode intentionally holds one or two previously ground portions in a chamber; use Fresh mode when minimizing hold time matters more than instant dispensing.
  • This is a hopper-fed commercial grinder, not a single-dose or near-zero-retention model.
  • At about 17 kg and 660 mm tall, it needs permanent counter space and ample hopper clearance.

Our Take:

The Bolt 83’s advantage is workflow flexibility, not single dosing: use Fresh mode for up to three on-demand timed doses, then switch to Predose when instant release matters most during a rush. At 4.2 g/s, it is fast even before Predose removes grinding time from the handoff.

LLS - Lock & Load System

With the Lock and Load System developed by Compak you can easily gain access to the grinding chamber and not worry about losing the setting of your grind adjustment.

Dispense Modes

Let's talk workflow. Compak offers two distinct functions known as Fresh and Predose modes. In the Fresh mode, you can customize the grinding duration to control the dose and save up to three preset time-based doses for immediate grinding. An advanced system identifies and grinds the correct dose based on the portafilter used.

On the other hand, Predose mode involves grinding and storing coffee portions in a dosing chamber. When needed, a trap door releases the entire dose at once before preparing for the next batch automatically. Predose mode is designed for high-demand periods while ensuring optimal freshness of each grind.

3 Different Work Modes

Easily activate the grinder to produce fresh grounds in 3 ways. You can push the portafilter in, activating the on-demand button. You can also get fresh grounds by touch on the touchscreen. The Bolt 83 also comes with the detection feature, which will dispense the "dose 2".

83mm Burrs

This flat burr grinder is equipped for wear and tear with a durability of 1,200 kg, it features burrs made of high-durability tempered steel (100Cr6). The 83mm burrs rotate at a slower pace, minimizing heat production and safeguarding the vital oils in the beans. This ensures that your espresso shot is rich in flavor and aroma. With their durable build and extended performance, larger burrs like the 83mm ones have a longer lifespan compared to smaller ones, ensuring a flavorful and predictable coffee experience.

Adjustable Fork Positioning

Easily adjust the coffee chute outlet and the height of the forks for correct distribution of the coffee grounds into your portafilter.

On Demand Grinder

This espresso grinder features on-demand grinding activated by the portafilter coming in contact with the button at the base of the portaholder. With this function, you can operate the machine just by inserting the portafilter and have the machine grind automatically.

Direct Access

With the Lock & Load System regulation, you can easily clean or change burrs without losing the adjustment. This system allows you direct access to the grinding chamber.

High Tech Touchscreen

The touch screen on this Compak grinder features a large 2.8" screen and comes in multiple languages and is built with a burr change alarm, a screensaver, and total and partial dose counters. You can even protect access with a password.

Who is the Bolt 83 Grinder Made For?

The Compak Bolt 83 commercial espresso machine is perfect for the medium to high volume shops that have demanding rushes or sustained workflows throughout the day.

Alerts for Burr Change

No worries about keeping up on the burrs, this espresso machine features a "replacement alarm" to alert you when the burrs are near the end of their use.

Electronic Fan to Keep Cool

A cooling system is an essential component of coffee grinders, as it plays a vital role in maintaining performance and preserving coffee quality. Here's why it's important:

  1. Heat Reduction: Coffee grinding creates heat through the friction between the burrs and beans, which can negatively impact the flavor and aroma of the coffee. The motor’s fan actively dissipates this heat to prevent the grounds from overheating during grinding.
  2. Consistent Extraction: Heat can affect the extraction process, causing premature release of volatile compounds from hot coffee grounds and leading to uneven extraction. The motor fan maintains a consistent temperature to ensure balanced flavors in espresso shots.
  3. Shot Time Stability: In busy cafes, consistent shot times are crucial, but heat buildup can cause variations in grind particle size and extraction times. The motor fan minimizes these fluctuations, allowing baristas to maintain precise shot times even during peak hours.

Historic Spanish Coffee Grinding Company

Compak grinders are meticulously crafted (in Barcelona) with a focus on precision and meticulousness. Every element, from material selection to burr design, is fine-tuned for optimal performance. The company provides a variety of grinder options, such as conical and flat burr models, to accommodate various brewing techniques and tastes. Compak stays at the forefront of innovation by integrating state-of-the-art technologies into their grinders, resulting in improved usability, efficiency, and user satisfaction.

Product FAQ

What type and size of burrs does the Compak Bolt 83 On Demand Coffee Grinder use?

The Compak Bolt 83 On Demand is equipped with 83 mm flat burrs designed specifically for espresso-focused grinding. These large flat burrs provide fast grinding speeds, excellent consistency, and clarity in the cup for high‑volume espresso preparation.

How long do the burrs last, and how often do they need to be replaced?

Burr life depends on usage and bean type, but 83 mm flat burrs in a commercial-style grinder typically last around 1,500–2,000+ kg of coffee before needing replacement. In a busy café this might mean replacement every 1–2 years; in a lower‑volume setting they can last several years. Regular cleaning helps maintain performance and extend burr life.

Is the Compak Bolt 83 a stepless grinder, and how precise is the grind adjustment?

Yes, the Compak Bolt 83 On Demand uses a stepless grind adjustment system. This allows you to make very small, precise changes to the grind size, which is ideal for dialing in espresso shots to match different beans, roasts, and recipes.

Is this grinder suitable for both espresso and filter coffee, or is it espresso‑only?

The Bolt 83 is designed primarily as a high‑performance espresso grinder. While it can technically be adjusted coarser, it is optimized for frequent fine adjustments in the espresso range rather than for switching back and forth between espresso and filter. For regular filter or batch brew grinding, a dedicated filter grinder is recommended.

What types of settings is the Compak Bolt 83 best suited for (café, home, restaurant, etc.)?

The Compak Bolt 83 On Demand is built for commercial and high‑volume environments such as specialty cafés, coffee bars, and restaurants with consistent espresso service. Enthusiast home users can use it as well, but its speed, capacity, and footprint are aimed at professional or prosumer setups.

Does the Compak Bolt 83 have timed or manual dosing, and can I program doses?

The Bolt 83 On Demand offers programmable timed dosing, allowing you to set specific grind times for single and double shots (and often additional presets, depending on configuration). It also supports manual grinding, so you can run the grinder on demand for as long as needed for custom doses or recipe testing.

Is the operation hands‑free, and does it include a portafilter holder or fork?

Yes, the grinder is designed for hands‑free operation. It comes with an adjustable portafilter fork or holder so you can lock in the portafilter and let the grinder dose directly into the basket without needing to hold it in place, which is helpful in busy service environments.

How fast is the Compak Bolt 83, and can it keep up with multiple drinks during peak times?

Thanks to its 83 mm flat burrs and powerful motor, the Bolt 83 grinds very quickly—typically in the range of a few seconds for a standard espresso dose (the exact time depends on grind setting and dose size). It is designed to handle continuous service and can comfortably keep up with multiple drinks in a busy café or bar setting.

How does free installation work?

We want to make your purchase as smooth as possible and will pay the installation via rebate on commercial espresso machines. This includes commercial machines with more than 1 group head and 220V.

If the certified installer needed is over 1.5 hours away then we will pay for the installation call (and install up to the value suggested on page minus call fee). Travel will be paid by customer. Inquire if you have any questions about your location.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 90 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is the customer's responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be the customer's responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If the customer's location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain the customer's responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

What to Expect on Install Day

Getting a commercial espresso machine delivered is one thing. Getting it actually running — plumbed, programmed, and pulling properly — is another. Here's what happens when the technician comes out.

Before the appointment: Site preparation will be confirmed before technicians make it out. Once your machine ships, we'll coordinate scheduling with you and assign a local certified technician. Before they arrive, make sure your space is ready: the machine's permanent location should be determined, your water line and drain access should be in place, and your electrical supply should match the machine's requirements.

On the day The technician will handle the physical installation of the machine — positioning, water line connection, and drain setup. Once it's plumbed and powered, they'll run through the setup and basic programming: boiler pressure, shot parameters, and confirming that water flows correctly through the group heads and steam wands. Some basic training will be provided, they'll pull test shots to verify the machine is operating within spec.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
