Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

A retail environment shouldn't be held back by a grinder that heats up after three bags or drifts during a heavy morning shift. The R120 is designed for the high-volume operator who values throughput and thermal stability over flashier, less capable alternatives. Flat 120 mm burrs ensure that your grind remains uniform even when the shop is at capacity and the hopper is being refilled for the fourth time that hour. It represents a commitment to a standard that both your baristas and your regulars will recognize as soon as the first bag is ground.

Product Features

Micrometric Regulation R120

The aluminum micrometric adjustment system provides precise, repeatable settings from Turkish through French press for bulk and retail workflows.

Flat 120 mm Burrs

The 120 mm flat burrs cover Turkish through French press settings. Compak rates R120 production at approximately 1.85 kg/minute (4.0 lb/minute) at 60 Hz and 1.5 kg/minute (3.3 lb/minute) at 50 Hz.

One Phase Motor 1.000 W

The U.S. 110 V / 60 Hz configuration uses a 1,000 W single-phase motor at 1,130 RPM. It is rated at approximately 1.85 kg/minute at 60 Hz.

Double Ventilation System

Two ventilation fans—one below the motor and one in the upper body—help maintain lower temperatures during demanding grinding runs.

Auto Coffee Exit Chute Sweeper

Auto coffee exit chute sweeper keeps the exit chute clear of retained grounds between doses, supporting consistent flow and reducing the need for manual clearing. This feature helps maintain throughput and reliability during service.

Large 2.200 g Hopper

The 2.2 kg hopper supports bulk workflows. At 60 Hz the R120 produces approximately 1.85 kg/minute, with a specified maximum cycle of 1 minute 30 seconds grinding followed by 4 minutes 30 seconds resting.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Retail coffee shops grinding full bags to order.
  • Roasteries and production-prep stations that need up to 1.85 kg/minute in controlled cycles.
  • High-throughput filter, Turkish, and multipurpose bulk-grinding programs.

It's Right For You If:

  • You need fast bulk output rather than individual espresso dosing: approximately 1.85 kg/minute at 60 Hz.
  • You want 120mm flat burrs, a 2.2 kg hopper, double ventilation, and a bag-focused workflow.
  • Your operation can schedule batches around the specified 1:30-on / 4:30-off cycle.

Things to Consider:

  • After a maximum 1 minute 30 seconds of grinding, the R120 requires 4 minutes 30 seconds of rest.
  • At 37.1 kg and 775 mm tall, it is a permanent retail or production-counter installation.
  • This is a manually controlled bulk grinder, not an on-demand espresso dosing grinder.

Our Take:

The R120 is a high-throughput bulk grinder for retail bags, roasteries, and batch preparation. The U.S. 60 Hz version delivers approximately 1.85 kg/minute, but that speed must be planned around its 1-minute-30-second-on / 4-minute-30-second-off duty cycle.

Product FAQ

What type and size of burrs does the Compak R120 Coffee Grinder use, and is it built for bulk or retail grinding?

The R120 uses large 120 mm flat burrs built for high-volume bulk grinding — sized for retail bagging, batch brew, and French press prep rather than fine espresso settings.

How long do the burrs typically last, and how often will I need to replace them?

Burr life depends on coffee volume, roast level, and maintenance. In a commercial environment, the 120 mm burrs on the R120 can often handle several thousand pounds of coffee before needing replacement. For heavy daily use in a café, many operators plan on checking burr condition annually and replacing them roughly every 12–24 months, or sooner if they notice slower grinding, increased heat, or inconsistent particle size.

Is the Compak R120 a stepless grinder, and how precise is the grind adjustment?

Yes. The Compak R120 features stepless (micrometric) grind adjustment, allowing you to make very fine incremental changes to dial in espresso precisely. This style of adjustment gives more control than stepped systems, which is especially helpful for specialty espresso service.

Is the Compak R120 suited for espresso, or is it built for batch brew and retail bagging?

The R120 is a bulk/batch grinder, not an espresso grinder — its range runs from Turkish through French Press, covering drip, batch brew, and retail bagging rather than fine espresso settings. If you need an espresso-specific grind, a dedicated espresso grinder is the better fit.

What types of environments is the Compak R120 best suited for?

The Compak R120 is a heavy-duty bulk grinder intended for retail roasteries, bagging operations, and high-volume batch brew service — anywhere you need to grind large quantities consistently rather than dose individual espresso shots.

Is the Compak R120 a grind-by-time, grind-by-weight, or manual-dosing grinder?

The R120 is a bulk/batch grinder — dosing is managed by time, volume, or your own bagging workflow rather than an on-board grind-by-weight system. It's built for grinding large batches for retail bags or batch brew, not single-dose espresso shots.

How fast is the Compak R120, and can it keep up with high-volume bagging or batch brew demand?

At 60 Hz, the R120 produces approximately 1.85 kg (4.0 lb) per minute. The 50 Hz rating is approximately 1.5 kg (3.3 lb) per minute, with actual output depending on coffee and grind.

Does the Compak R120 include a cooling fan or features to manage heat buildup during heavy use?

The R120 uses two ventilation fans to help control temperature. For the best results, follow the specified maximum cycle of 1 minute 30 seconds grinding followed by 4 minutes 30 seconds resting.

How does free installation work?

We want to make your purchase as smooth as possible and will pay the installation via rebate on commercial espresso machines. This includes commercial machines with more than 1 group head and 220V.

If the certified installer needed is over 1.5 hours away then we will pay for the installation call (and install up to the value suggested on page minus call fee). Travel will be paid by customer. Inquire if you have any questions about your location.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 90 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is the customer's responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be the customer's responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If the customer's location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain the customer's responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

What to Expect on Install Day

Getting a commercial espresso machine delivered is one thing. Getting it actually running — plumbed, programmed, and pulling properly — is another. Here's what happens when the technician comes out.

Before the appointment: Site preparation will be confirmed before technicians make it out. Once your machine ships, we'll coordinate scheduling with you and assign a local certified technician. Before they arrive, make sure your space is ready: the machine's permanent location should be determined, your water line and drain access should be in place, and your electrical supply should match the machine's requirements.

On the day The technician will handle the physical installation of the machine — positioning, water line connection, and drain setup. Once it's plumbed and powered, they'll run through the setup and basic programming: boiler pressure, shot parameters, and confirming that water flows correctly through the group heads and steam wands. Some basic training will be provided, they'll pull test shots to verify the machine is operating within spec.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
