Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

The E65S GbW is a compact commercial espresso grinder with 65 mm special-steel burrs, 5–6 g/s output, real-time weight dosing, Disc Distance Detection, and automatic portafilter recognition.

Product Features

Disc Distance Detection

65 mm special-steel flat burrs produce 5–6 g/s at 1700 RPM on the U.S. 60 Hz model.

Grind-by-Weight Dosing

Real-time Grind-by-Weight dosing uses an integrated scale to stop each grind at the assigned target mass.

Portafilter Detection

Portafilter Detection can recognize up to six portafilters and automatically select the assigned dose profile.

Automatic Preset Selection

Disc Distance Detection displays the actual burr gap for repeatable settings; it does not automatically change grind size.

Auto-Start Grinding

Active cooling helps manage grinding temperature during repeated commercial service.

Tighter Espresso Control

A 1.2 kg hopper and 12.2 kg chassis fit professional bars that need precision in a relatively narrow footprint.

Brand

Mahlkonig

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Low- to medium-volume specialty cafés prioritizing weight-based dose accuracy.
  • Multi-barista bars that benefit from automatic portafilter recognition and assigned profiles.
  • Operators wanting 5–6 g/s output without moving to the larger E80 platform.

It's Right For You If:

  • You want the grinder to weigh grounds in real time and stop at the target dose.
  • Your workflow benefits from assigned profiles for multiple recognized portafilters.

Things to Consider:

  • The E65S GbW is a legacy model no longer offered in Mahlkönig's current lineup; confirm new-stock availability and parts support before ordering.
  • Grind-by-Weight still requires scale calibration and a stable, correctly positioned portafilter.
  • DDD reports burr spacing but does not provide the motorized automatic grind-size correction found on newer Grind-by-Sync models.

Our Take:

The E65S GbW remains a capable compact weight-dosing grinder. Its strongest workflow advantage is not a lack of presets—it is the ability to recognize portafilters and apply assigned weight targets automatically.

Mahlkönig E65S GbW Espresso Grinder

The E65S GbW combines 65 mm special-steel burrs with real-time Grind-by-Weight dosing, Disc Distance Detection, and automatic portafilter detection. The U.S. 60 Hz model produces 5–6 g/s from a 580 W motor at 1700 RPM.

Real-Time Grind-by-Weight

An integrated load cell weighs grounds during grinding and stops at the assigned target, reducing the need to weigh each portafilter separately.

Portafilter Detection

The grinder can recognize up to six portafilters and automatically load the dose profile assigned to each one.

Disc Distance Detection

DDD measures burr spacing to make grind settings visible and repeatable; grind adjustment itself remains a barista-controlled step.

Commercial Capacity

A 1.2 kg hopper, active cooling, 800 kg nominal burr life, and 5–6 g/s output suit low- to medium-volume professional espresso service.

Product FAQ

Is the Mahlkönig E65S GbW a grind‑by‑weight grinder or does it use timed dosing?

The Mahlkönig E65S GbW is a true grind‑by‑weight grinder. It uses an integrated scale in the portafilter fork to dose based on weight automatically, so you program a target weight in grams and the grinder stops when that weight is reached. It also offers manual grinding mode if you prefer to control shots yourself.

What type of burrs does the Mahlkönig E65S GbW come with, and are they flat or conical?

The Mahlkönig E65S GbW comes with 65 mm flat steel burrs. They’re designed for high consistency and are optimized specifically for espresso use in commercial environments, with an emphasis on uniform particle size and repeatability shot to shot.

How long do the burrs typically last, and how often will I need to replace them?

Under typical café use with mostly espresso grinding, the 65 mm flat steel burrs on the E65S GbW are often rated for several hundred kilograms of coffee before needing replacement. In a busy café, that can translate to roughly 1–3 years of use; in a lower‑volume setting they can last significantly longer. Actual lifespan depends on your volume, roast level (darker roasts wear burrs faster), and cleaning habits. You’ll know it’s time to replace them when you see slower grinding, more clumping, and less clarity or consistency in your shots.

Is the Mahlkönig E65S GbW a stepless grinder, and how precise are the grind adjustments?

Yes. The E65S GbW uses a stepless grind adjustment system with a fine, continuous dial rather than fixed clicks. This allows you to make very small, precise changes to grind size, which is ideal for dialing in espresso. The adjustment mechanism is designed for repeatable, easy-to-read changes during a busy bar shift.

What types of settings is the E65S GbW best suited for: café, restaurant, or home use?

The E65S GbW is primarily designed as a commercial espresso grinder for specialty coffee shops, high‑end restaurants, and hotel bars that need high consistency and speed. Enthusiast home users can certainly use it, but its size, power, and price make it best suited for professional or high‑volume environments rather than casual home use.

Can the Mahlkönig E65S GbW grind for both espresso and filter coffee?

The grinder is optimized for espresso and excels in that range, especially for grind‑by‑weight dosing into a portafilter. While it can be adjusted coarser, it’s not intended as an all‑purpose filter grinder and is less convenient for frequently switching between espresso and drip or pour‑over settings. If you need a flexible brew‑method grinder, it’s usually better paired with a dedicated filter grinder.

How fast is the E65S GbW, and can it keep up with multiple drinks during busy periods?

The E65S GbW is engineered for commercial throughput and can grind a standard double espresso dose in just a few seconds (exact time depends on dose size and grind setting). It easily keeps pace with typical café volumes, producing consecutive shots back‑to‑back while maintaining consistent dosing and grind size. For most specialty cafés, it is more than fast enough for a busy morning rush.

Does the Mahlkönig E65S GbW have a built‑in cooling system or fan to handle heavy use?

Yes. The E65S GbW includes an active cooling system with a fan to help manage heat buildup during continuous use. This helps keep the grinding chamber temperature more stable, protecting flavor and improving consistency during high‑volume service.

How does free installation work?

We want to make your purchase as smooth as possible and will pay the installation via rebate on commercial espresso machines. This includes commercial machines with more than 1 group head and 220V.

If the certified installer needed is over 1.5 hours away then we will pay for the installation call (and install up to the value suggested on page minus call fee). Travel will be paid by customer. Inquire if you have any questions about your location.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 90 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is the customer's responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be the customer's responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If the customer's location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain the customer's responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

What to Expect on Install Day

Getting a commercial espresso machine delivered is one thing. Getting it actually running — plumbed, programmed, and pulling properly — is another. Here's what happens when the technician comes out.

Before the appointment: Site preparation will be confirmed before technicians make it out. Once your machine ships, we'll coordinate scheduling with you and assign a local certified technician. Before they arrive, make sure your space is ready: the machine's permanent location should be determined, your water line and drain access should be in place, and your electrical supply should match the machine's requirements.

On the day The technician will handle the physical installation of the machine — positioning, water line connection, and drain setup. Once it's plumbed and powered, they'll run through the setup and basic programming: boiler pressure, shot parameters, and confirming that water flows correctly through the group heads and steam wands. Some basic training will be provided, they'll pull test shots to verify the machine is operating within spec.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
