Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

The E80S GbW is a legacy high-volume espresso grinder with 80 mm burrs, 7–8 g/s output, real-time weight dosing, DDD, and automatic recognition for up to six portafilters.

Product Features

Disc Distance Detection

80 mm special-steel flat burrs produce 7–8 g/s at 1700 RPM on the U.S. 60 Hz model.

Real-time Grind-by-Weight

Real-time Grind-by-Weight dosing uses an integrated scale to stop each grind at the assigned target mass.

Record Grinding Speed

Portafilter Detection can recognize up to six portafilters and automatically select the assigned profile.

Grind-setting Stability Under Load

Disc Distance Detection displays the burr gap for repeatable settings; it does not motorize or automatically change grind size.

Built For High-Volume Cafés

An 845 W motor with active temperature control supports repeated high-volume grinding.

Operator Documentation Included

A 1.8 kg hopper and 18 kg chassis provide the capacity and stability expected from a primary high-volume grinder.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • High-volume specialty cafés prioritizing real-time weight dosing.
  • Multi-group espresso bars that benefit from up to six recognized portafilter profiles.
  • Operators needing 7–8 g/s output and a large 1.8 kg hopper.

It's Right For You If:

  • You want weight-based precision and very fast 80 mm burr performance.
  • Your bar expects roughly 250–400 espresso doses per day and needs a high-volume primary grinder.

Things to Consider:

  • The E80S GbW is a legacy model no longer offered in Mahlkönig's current lineup; confirm new-stock availability and parts support before ordering.
  • DDD measures burr spacing but does not provide the motorized automatic grind-size correction of the newer E80W Grind-by-Sync.
  • The U.S. 845 W grinder should be assigned a suitable circuit with the espresso machine and other high-draw equipment considered separately.

Our Take:

The E80S GbW still delivers the two things a busy bar needs most—7–8 g/s speed and real-time dose weight. The newer E80W adds motorized Sync adjustment, but the legacy S model remains a capable high-volume weight grinder.

Product FAQ

Is the Mahlkönig E80S GbW a grind‑by‑weight grinder, and how accurate is the built‑in scale?

Yes. The E80S GbW is a true grind‑by‑weight grinder with an integrated load cell in the fork. It doses directly by weight into the portafilter, typically within about ±0.1–0.3 g once calibrated and warmed up, which is accurate enough for demanding commercial espresso service.

What type of burrs does the Mahlkönig E80S GbW come with, and what size are they?

The E80S GbW is equipped with 80 mm hardened steel flat burrs designed specifically for espresso. They are engineered for high throughput, low retention, and excellent particle uniformity suitable for modern espresso profiles in commercial settings.

How long do the burrs last, and how often will I need to replace them?

Burr life depends on usage and bean hardness, but Mahlkönig rates the 80 mm steel burrs for roughly 2,500–3,000+ kg of coffee under normal use. In a busy café this may translate to several years; in lighter‑volume environments they can last much longer. Replace burrs when shot times become inconsistent despite good calibration, you see visible wear or chipping, or flavor clarity noticeably declines.

Is the E80S GbW a stepless grinder, and how precise is the grind adjustment?

Yes. The E80S GbW uses a stepless, collar‑style adjustment. This allows for very fine, incremental changes in grind size, making it easy to dial in espresso shots precisely for different coffees and recipes without being limited by fixed “clicks.”

Is this grinder suitable for both espresso and filter coffee, or is it espresso‑only?

The E80S GbW is optimized for espresso and high‑volume bar service. While it can be adjusted coarser, its burrs, grind range, and workflow are primarily designed for espresso. If your main goal is batch brew, pour‑over, or other filter methods, a dedicated filter grinder is usually a better choice.

What types of settings is the Mahlkönig E80S GbW best suited for (café, restaurant, home, etc.)?

This is a commercial‑grade grinder built for high‑volume environments such as specialty coffee shops, espresso bars, high‑end restaurants, and hotels. Its speed, duty cycle, and grind‑by‑weight workflow are ideal for professional bars that prepare many espresso drinks throughout the day.

How fast is the E80S GbW, and can it keep up with a busy rush?

The E80S GbW is designed for speed and consistency under heavy use. In typical espresso ranges it can grind an 18 g shot in roughly 2–3 seconds, depending on roast and grind setting. This throughput allows it to keep up with multiple drinks in a row and handle busy rush periods in commercial settings.

Does the Mahlkönig E80S GbW come with a cooling fan or any system to manage heat during heavy use?

Yes. The E80S GbW uses an efficient motor and an active cooling concept, including a cooling fan, to help maintain lower burr temperatures during high‑volume grinding. This helps protect flavor, consistency, and grinder longevity in busy service.

How does free installation work?

We want to make your purchase as smooth as possible and will pay the installation via rebate on commercial espresso machines. This includes commercial machines with more than 1 group head and 220V.

If the certified installer needed is over 1.5 hours away then we will pay for the installation call (and install up to the value suggested on page minus call fee). Travel will be paid by customer. Inquire if you have any questions about your location.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 90 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is the customer's responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be the customer's responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If the customer's location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain the customer's responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

What to Expect on Install Day

Getting a commercial espresso machine delivered is one thing. Getting it actually running — plumbed, programmed, and pulling properly — is another. Here's what happens when the technician comes out.

Before the appointment: Site preparation will be confirmed before technicians make it out. Once your machine ships, we'll coordinate scheduling with you and assign a local certified technician. Before they arrive, make sure your space is ready: the machine's permanent location should be determined, your water line and drain access should be in place, and your electrical supply should match the machine's requirements.

On the day The technician will handle the physical installation of the machine — positioning, water line connection, and drain setup. Once it's plumbed and powered, they'll run through the setup and basic programming: boiler pressure, shot parameters, and confirming that water flows correctly through the group heads and steam wands. Some basic training will be provided, they'll pull test shots to verify the machine is operating within spec.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
