Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

You have likely reached the point where the bottleneck in your workflow is no longer your technique, but the time it takes for your hardware to recover between drinks. The shift to a dual thermoblock system recognizes that serious espresso isn't just about the first shot of the morning, but the tenth one you pull for a group of guests. It is the transition from managing a temperamental appliance to operating a tool that maintains thermal stability while you focus on the tactile details of the 58mm portafilter. This is how you stop waiting for your equipment to catch up and start refining the variables that actually change the flavor in the cup.

Product Features

PID Temperature Control

Precision PID lets you dial brew temperature in one-degree increments, giving you repeatable control over extraction as you experiment with roast and dose. The Steel Duo also offers independent temperature control for the brew and steam thermoblocks so your shots stay steady while you froth.

Dual Thermoblock

Two dedicated thermoblocks — one for brew, one for steam — let you pull shots and texture milk at the same time, so your morning routine stays uninterrupted. The Steel Duo’s dual thermoblock design (with a dedicated steam circuit) delivers continuous steam and consistent brew temperature for café-style workflow at home.

Volumetric Programming & Pre-Infusion

Programmable volumetric dosing with pre-infusion and single/double-shot presets makes consistent shots effortless—ideal for mornings when you want café-quality espresso without guesswork. You can save shot volumes and use auto-standby to streamline every pull from grind to cup.

58mm Professional Portafilter

A true 58mm professional portafilter with a real walnut wood handle gives you the commercial-sized basket and tactile feel baristas prefer, making it easier to replicate café extraction at home. The familiar diameter also opens the door to a wide range of pro baskets and accessories.

Adjustable OPV + Pressure Gauge

An adjustable OPV (over-pressure valve) alongside an analog pressure gauge lets you control and monitor brewing pressure so you can avoid over-extraction and refine shot character. Seeing and tuning pressure is a practical tool when you’re dialing in new beans.

No-Burn Steam Wand & Manual Control

The improved no-burn steam wand and walnut manual steam knob give you confident, hands-on milk texturing for lattes and cappuccinos without accidental burns. Designed for home baristas, the single steam tip and ergonomic knob make it easy to develop microfoam during your daily ritual.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Home users upgrading from entry-level espresso — The dual thermoblock system and 58mm portafilter represent a genuine step up in both thermal stability and accessory compatibility
  • Daily home espresso drinkers — 2-5 minute heat-up means you can decide you want espresso and have it in your hands within 10 minutes, even from cold
  • Enthusiasts who host — Independent brew and steam thermoblocks let you crank out milk drinks for guests without waiting for recovery

It's Right For You If:

  • You want dual-boiler temperature stability without the 20-plus minute heat-up of traditional brass boilers.
  • You are ready to move to a 58mm standard portafilter and the wider world of precision baskets and accessories.
  • Your daily routine includes both straight espresso and milk drinks, and you want to switch between them seamlessly.

Things to Consider:

  • Thermoblock recovery is fast for sequential drinks but does not match the sustained steam capacity of a traditional dual-boiler with larger water reserves.
  • Vibration pumps are reliable but louder than rotary — if noise is a concern, factor that in.
  • The custom grouphead means some E61-specific accessories will not be compatible — check accessory availability before committing.

Our Take:

The Ascaso Steel DUO is the machine for people who are tired of waiting — the 2-5 minute heat-up and independent thermoblocks mean you are brewing and steaming simultaneously almost immediately. If you want dual-boiler performance without the traditional warm-up ritual, this delivers.

Designed for Temperature Control

One thermoblock dedicated for coffee and one dedicated for steam for dual performance. The thermoblock design allows the machine to be left powered on all day. With a three-way solenoid valve that helps relieve any pressure on the filter basket once you finish your shot, you'll notice a reduction of moisture in the puck after the extraction.

The Steel DUO'S new PID also includes advanced features like temperature and offset control, pre-infusion, power-saving modes, and single or double shot programming.

No Burn Wands

Electronic steam control with an advanced no-burn steam wand for safety.

    Water Quality & Machine Protection

Proper water quality is essential for optimal espresso extraction and long-term machine health. Use the guidelines below to ensure your machine performs at its best.

Parameter Ideal Range Why It Matters
Total Hardness 50-170 ppm Prevents scale buildup while maintaining flavor
pH Level 6.5-7.5 Ensures balanced extraction and protects internal components
Chlorine 0 ppm Eliminates off-flavors and prevents corrosion
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) 70-150 ppm Optimal mineral content for extraction and taste
Total Alkalinity ~7.0 Stabilizes acidity and extraction
Chloride 0-28 ppm Prevents corrosion (especially in steel boilers)

    Important Note

Always refer to your machine's manual for specific water quality recommendations and maintenance schedules.

    Advisory

Install a water filtration system to maintain consistent water quality and extend the life of your espresso machine.

    What This Means

    • Water that’s too hard → scale buildup, reduced performance
    • Water that’s too soft → flat, dull espresso
    • Improper water can damage internal components over time

    Machine-Specific Considerations

    • These guidelines are safe for most home espresso machines
    • Some machines (especially with stainless steel boilers) require stricter limits on chlorides

    Product FAQ

Does the Ascaso Steel DUO have one or two boilers, and can it brew espresso and steam milk at the same time?

The Ascaso Steel DUO is a dual-thermoblock (dual-circuit) machine rather than a single boiler. One thermoblock is dedicated to brewing and the other to steam/hot water, allowing you to brew espresso and steam milk simultaneously with very short heat‑up and recovery times.

Is the pump a vibratory or rotary pump, and how loud is the machine during operation?

The Steel DUO uses a high‑quality vibratory pump, not a rotary pump. Vibratory pumps are common in home machines at this price point. Noise is comparable to most prosumer vibratory‑pump machines—audible but brief, especially since the DUO heats quickly and pulls shots fast.

Does the Ascaso Steel DUO support pre‑infusion, and is it adjustable?

Yes. The Steel DUO offers pre‑infusion by using pump control and thermoblock design to gently wet the puck before full pressure is applied. On the programmable PID versions, pre‑infusion time and pump activation can be fine‑tuned in the menu, within the machine’s available settings.

Can this machine be plumbed directly into a water line, or is it tank‑only?

The standard Ascaso Steel DUO sold in the US is a tank‑fed machine with an internal water reservoir; it does not come as a direct‑plumb model. It must be filled from the removable water tank and cannot be hard‑plumbed without aftermarket modification, which would void most warranties.

Does the Steel DUO come with a cool‑touch or no‑burn steam wand, and can I rotate it easily for latte art steaming?

Yes. The Steel DUO features an articulated stainless‑steel steam wand designed to stay cooler to the touch than traditional wands, reducing the risk of burns. It swivels for comfortable positioning, and the strong, dry steam output is suitable for creating microfoam for latte art.

What size portafilter does it use, and are the included baskets pressurized or non‑pressurized?

The Ascaso Steel DUO uses a commercial‑style 58 mm portafilter. Most US configurations ship with traditional non‑pressurized baskets (single and double), and many also include a pressurized basket option for pre‑ground coffee or less precise grinders. Check the specific retailer’s bundle to confirm what baskets are included.

Is the temperature PID‑controlled, and can I adjust brew temperature for different coffee types?

Yes. The Steel DUO PID models feature electronic PID temperature control for both brewing and steam circuits. You can adjust the brew temperature in small increments through the front‑panel interface to dial in lighter or darker roasts, and the display shows the set temperature for easier repeatability.

How long does it take to heat up from cold, and is it suitable for weekday morning use?

Because it uses thermoblocks instead of a large boiler, the Steel DUO typically reaches brew and steam temperature in about 5–10 minutes from cold, depending on ambient conditions. This fast warm‑up makes it well‑suited for quick weekday morning use without needing to leave the machine on for long periods.

    How does free installation work?

We want to make your purchase as smooth as possible and will pay the installation via rebate on commercial espresso machines. This includes commercial machines with more than 1 group head and 220V.

If the certified installer needed is over 1.5 hours away then we will pay for the installation call (and install up to the value suggested on page minus call fee). Travel will be paid by customer. Inquire if you have any questions about your location.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

    Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

    What's Included

    • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
    • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
    • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
    • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 30 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

    How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

    What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

    • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is your responsibility
    • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
    • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
    • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
    • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

    Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be your responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

    Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If your location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain your responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

    After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

    Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
