Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

There comes a point where you stop looking for a better bean and start looking for a better way to process it. The Forte AP is built for the workspace that bridges the gap between a dedicated hobby and a professional standard, offering the stability required for back-to-back shots without the footprint of a retail-only machine. Integrating 54mm flat ceramic burrs ensures your extraction stays consistent even when the morning rush includes a few demanding guests. It settles the debate between durability and precision by simply providing both.

Product Features

Dual-Cam 260 Settings

Baratza’s dual cam grind adjustment gives you 260 stepped fineness settings with separate macro and micro levers, so you can lock into a coarse starting point and then fine-tune precisely. The stepped, click-style settings make it easy to document and return to exact positions when experimenting with beans or brew methods.

Touch Screen Interface

Program dose-by-weight or dose-by-time on the Forté AP’s touch-activated LED screen—dose-by-weight is accurate to ±0.2 g and dose-by-time to 1/10th of a second. Three programmable presets for each method make swapping between espresso and filter recipes quick and repeatable.

54mm Flat Ceramic Burrs

The Forté AP uses 54 mm flat ceramic burrs that resist heat and deliver a narrow particle distribution for cleaner, more consistent extraction. The burrs are adjustable across a 230–1150 micron range, covering fine espresso to coarser filter grinds.

High-Torque DC Motor

A high-torque DC motor—70% more powerful than the Vario and able to run twice as long—turns more slowly to reduce heat and noise, with a thermal cut-off switch that automatically resets. Baratza also fitted a new drive ratio, pulley and belt-drive system to handle the increased torque in heavier use.

Fast, Consistent Throughput

Expect reliable output rates—about 2.0 g/sec for espresso and roughly 3.5–3.7 g/sec for press pots—with grinds dispensed directly into the enclosed grounds container for doserless handling. That speed and consistency make dialing recipes efficient whether you’re pulling single doses or batching for pour-over.

Commercial-Grade Construction & Serviceability

Built with stainless/aluminum housing and commercial-grade internal components, the Forté AP is engineered for long-term use in a demanding environment. Routine cleaning and calibration are straightforward thanks to included burr removal and calibration tools and easy access to the burrs.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Home Baristas Who Want Ceramic Burr Precision — The Forte AP uses flat ceramic burrs that stay cooler than steel during extended grinding. If you grind for multiple methods daily and want to preserve bean flavor, ceramic is the material choice
  • Multi-Method Brewers Who Want One Grinder — The 54mm ceramic burrs and stepped adjustment cover espresso through French press. One grinder, multiple methods, no burr swaps
  • Baratza Fans Who Want the Premium Option — The AP sits above the BG in Baratza's lineup with ceramic burrs and a more refined grind profile

It's Right For You If:

  • You want ceramic burrs that generate less heat during grinding — the Forte AP's 54mm flat ceramics preserve bean flavor better than steel on extended sessions.
  • Your workflow involves switching between espresso and filter throughout the day, and you want one grinder that handles both at 1.6-2.0 g/sec.

Things to Consider:

  • Ceramic burrs stay cooler but are more brittle than steel. They handle normal use fine, but a foreign object (a small stone in your beans) can chip them.
  • At 1.6-2.0 g/sec, the AP is slower than the BG's 2.4 g/sec. If speed matters more than heat management, the steel-burr BG is the faster option.
  • 1950 RPM is high for a 54mm grinder — expect more noise than lower-RPM alternatives.

Our Take:

The Baratza Forte AP is the ceramic-burr alternative to the BG — same platform, same build, but with flat ceramics that keep your beans cooler during grinding. If flavor preservation is your priority, this is the material to choose.

    Product FAQ

What grind range does the Baratza Forte AP (Flat Ceramic) Grinder cover, and is it suitable for both espresso and filter coffee?

The Forte AP offers a wide grind range from fine espresso to coarse drip and manual brew. It is designed as an “All Purpose” grinder (hence AP), so it works well for espresso, Aeropress, pour-over, drip, and some lighter-duty coarse brews. It is not ideal for very coarse, high-volume cold brew, but it’s excellent for anything from fine to medium‑coarse grinds.

Is the Forte AP a stepless grinder, and how precise are the adjustments for dialing in espresso?

The Forte AP uses a macro/micro adjustment system rather than being fully stepless. The macro lever provides 10 larger grind ranges, and the micro lever offers 26 smaller steps within each macro setting. Together this gives very fine control that functions like a pseudo‑stepless system, allowing precise dialing in for espresso while staying easy to adjust for other brew methods.

What type and size of burrs does the Baratza Forte AP use, and how do they affect grind quality?

The Baratza Forte AP comes with 54 mm flat ceramic burrs. Ceramic burrs stay sharp for a long time, generate less heat during grinding, and are known for producing a very consistent, uniform particle size. The flat burr geometry helps deliver excellent clarity and balance in both espresso and filter-style brews.

How long do the ceramic burrs typically last, and how often should I plan to replace them?

Burr life depends on usage and bean type, but Baratza’s 54 mm flat ceramic burrs are generally rated for several hundred kilograms of coffee. For a typical home user, this often translates into many years of use before replacement is needed. In light commercial or heavy-use environments, you may want to inspect burrs annually and replace them when you notice slower grinding, more fines, or inconsistent extractions.

Is the Baratza Forte AP a grind‑by‑weight grinder, and does it also offer timed or manual dosing options?

Yes. The Forte AP is a grind‑by‑weight grinder with a built‑in scale, allowing you to program and dispense by weight with good accuracy. It also offers grind‑by‑time modes and a manual mode, so you can choose the dosing method that best fits your workflow. You can store multiple programmable presets for quick, repeatable doses.

How fast is the Forte AP, and can it keep up with making multiple espresso drinks in a row?

The Forte AP grinds relatively quickly for a compact flat‑burr grinder, typically around 1.5–2.5 grams per second depending on grind setting and beans. For home use and small service environments, it can comfortably keep up with multiple drinks in a row. For very high‑volume cafés with continuous back‑to‑back shots, a larger dedicated commercial grinder may be more appropriate.

Is the Baratza Forte AP suitable for my environment (home, small café, office, or restaurant bar station)?

The Forte AP is designed as a robust prosumer/small commercial grinder. It’s an excellent fit for serious home baristas, offices, small cafés, catering setups, and low‑ to medium‑volume restaurant or bar coffee programs. For extremely high‑volume, all‑day commercial espresso service, you may want to pair or replace it with a larger café‑oriented grinder.

Will the Forte AP fit under standard kitchen cabinets, and how much counter space does it require?

The Forte AP has a compact footprint and is designed to fit under most standard US kitchen cabinets when using the standard hopper. If your cabinets are unusually low or you have very limited vertical clearance, you may consider a shorter hopper option or check the product’s listed height dimensions against your available space before purchasing.

    How does free installation work?

We want to make your purchase as smooth as possible and will pay the installation via rebate on commercial espresso machines. This includes commercial machines with more than 1 group head and 220V.

If the certified installer needed is over 1.5 hours away then we will pay for the installation call (and install up to the value suggested on page minus call fee). Travel will be paid by customer. Inquire if you have any questions about your location.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

    Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

    What's Included

    • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
    • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
    • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
    • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 30 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

    How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

    What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

    • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is your responsibility
    • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
    • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
    • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
    • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

    Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be your responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

    Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If your location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain your responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

    After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

    Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
