Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

The transition from curious hobbyist to serious home barista usually happens the moment you realize that most department store machines are just toys in disguise. This machine belongs to the person who values their counter space as much as their caffeine, providing a focused tool for practicing proper puck prep without the fluff. The three-second startup time removes the friction between wanting a shot and actually drinking one, allowing the morning ritual to remain a pleasure rather than a logistical hurdle. You can finally stop waiting for your equipment to catch up to your technique.

Product Features

54 mm Portafilter

A professional-style 54 mm portafilter accepts an 18 g dose for fuller-bodied shots and comes with both dual- and single-wall filters. That size and filter flexibility let serious home baristas extract richer crema and flavor without needing a commercial machine.

ThermoJet Heating System

Breville's ThermoJet heating system with PID temperature control heats to brew-ready in 3 seconds, so your morning ritual isn't delayed. The system delivers water at exactly 200°F, giving you the temperature stability needed to dial in extraction on single-origin and espresso blends.

Pre-infusion + 9-Bar Extraction

Low-pressure pre-infusion followed by a 9 bar extraction mimics café extraction dynamics to produce a creamy, caramel-colored espresso. The high-pressure phase is delivered via a 15 bar Italian pump, combining gentle puck saturation with firm extraction pressure for balanced shots.

266°F Steam

Steam at 266°F produces fast, consistent microfoam so you can texture milk for lattes and cappuccinos without long waits. The result is silky, velvety milk that supports latte art and a smooth mouthfeel in milk-based drinks.

Volumetric Shot Control

A simple interface offers one-touch 1 & 2 shot volumetric buttons plus steam and hot water controls, letting you reproduce the same shot volumes every day. Ideal for home baristas who want repeatable results with minimal fuss during their routine.

Compact Countertop Fit

The Bambino packs café capabilities into a small footprint (12 in H × 14 in W × 6.5 in D) and a 1.38 L water tank, so it fits tight countertops without sacrificing performance. Great for kitchens where space matters but you still want true espresso workflow.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • First-time espresso buyers on a budget — You get real 9-bar extraction with pre-infusion at an entry-level price, without features you don't need yet
  • Home users upgrading from pod machines — The 54mm portafilter and proper extraction pressure deliver a genuine quality jump from capsules
  • Casual espresso drinkers — If you pull a few shots a week and want something simple, compact, and capable, this fits the bill

It's Right For You If:

  • You want to learn espresso basics without a steep upfront investment in features you won't use.
  • Your counter space is tight and you need a machine that disappears when not in use.
  • You're buying a separate grinder and want the machine to stay out of the way.

Things to Consider:

  • No auto-milk frothing — you'll need to learn manual steam wand technique for lattes and cappuccinos, which adds a learning step.
  • The 54mm portafilter limits accessory options compared to the standard 58mm ecosystem.
  • Thermoblock heating is fast but back-to-back milk drinks will require brief pauses for the system to recover.

Our Take:

The Bambino is the honest entry point — real espresso, no gimmicks, at a price that doesn't hurt if you decide the hobby isn't for you. We recommend it for anyone who wants to learn the craft without paying for automation they'll outgrow.

Water Quality & Machine Protection

Proper water quality is essential for optimal espresso extraction and long-term machine health. Use the guidelines below to ensure your machine performs at its best.

Parameter Ideal Range Why It Matters
Total Hardness 50-170 ppm Prevents scale buildup while maintaining flavor
pH Level 6.5-7.5 Ensures balanced extraction and protects internal components
Chlorine 0 ppm Eliminates off-flavors and prevents corrosion
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) 70-150 ppm Optimal mineral content for extraction and taste
Total Alkalinity ~7.0 Stabilizes acidity and extraction
Chloride 0-28 ppm Prevents corrosion (especially in steel boilers)

Important Note

Always refer to your machine's manual for specific water quality recommendations and maintenance schedules.

Advisory

Install a water filtration system to maintain consistent water quality and extend the life of your espresso machine.

What This Means

  • Water that’s too hard → scale buildup, reduced performance
  • Water that’s too soft → flat, dull espresso
  • Improper water can damage internal components over time

Machine-Specific Considerations

  • These guidelines are safe for most home espresso machines
  • Some machines (especially with stainless steel boilers) require stricter limits on chlorides

Product FAQ

Can I brew and steam at the same time?

No — the Bambino is a single-thermoblock machine, so you pull your shot first, then switch to steam. The heat-up is fast though, about 1 minute.

Does it have PID temperature control?

Yes, even at this entry-level price point the Bambino includes PID temperature control for consistent shots.

What size portafilter does it use?

It uses a 54mm portafilter, consistent with Breville's home espresso lineup.

Does it have automatic milk frothing?

No, the Bambino has a traditional steam wand — you'll texture milk manually. If you want auto frothing, look at the Bambino Plus.

Does it come with a built-in grinder?

No, the Bambino is a standalone espresso machine. You'll need a separate grinder to go with it.

Will it fit on a small counter?

Definitely — at 12.5 inches tall, 7.75 inches wide, and only 10.5 lbs, it's one of the smallest and lightest espresso machines available.

Does it have a shot timer?

Yes, there's a built-in shot timer so you can track your extraction time while dialing in.

Can it be plumbed in?

No, it's reservoir-fed with a 1.4L tank and plugs into a standard NEMA 5-15 outlet.

How does free installation work?

We want to make your purchase as smooth as possible and will pay the installation via rebate on commercial espresso machines. This includes commercial machines with more than 1 group head and 220V.

If the certified installer needed is over 1.5 hours away then we will pay for the installation call (and install up to the value suggested on page minus call fee). Travel will be paid by customer. Inquire if you have any questions about your location.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 30 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is your responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be your responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If your location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain your responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
