Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

There comes a point where you stop blaming your grinder and realize your current machine is the actual ceiling on your quality. The Alex Duetto IV Plus removes that restriction with independent dual boilers that provide the thermal stability required to stop guessing about your extraction temperature. It is a heavy, purposeful tool for those who value the quiet confidence of a rotary pump and enough cup clearance to actually fit a scale and a vessel under their portafilter. You are finally playing on level ground with the beans.

Product Features

Independent Dual Boilers

Two independently controlled boilers (.8 / 1.8 L) let you run brew and steam at different temperatures and recover quickly between drinks, so the Duetto IV handles multiple café-style beverages in a row. You can even turn the service (steam) boiler off when it’s not needed to save energy and simplify maintenance.

Dual PID Temperature Control

Dual PID controllers with a built-in shot timer deliver tight temperature stability for repeatable shots—one PID manages brew while the other manages steam. Unlike a simple thermostat, the PID pulses energy to hold temperature within a narrow range, which helps you lock in recipes and consistency.

Lead-Free Copper & Brass Boilers

Heavy, lead-free copper and brass boilers retain heat well and reduce susceptibility to chloride stress corrosion over time. The choice of boiler material improves thermal stability from boiler to cup for more consistent extractions.

High-Volume Steam Performance

A large 1.8-liter steam boiler paired with a 2-hole steam tip (holes pointing straight down) and an insulated, no-burn wand makes it easy to produce silky microfoam for lattes and cappuccinos. The boiler size and tip geometry provide strong, stable steam pressure for quick recovery and repeatable milk texture.

Raised E61 Group & Cup Clearance

The raised E61 group head (an 8-lb chrome-plated brass assembly) reduces heat loss between boiler and cup while making it simple to slide larger mugs under the group. Chris’ Coffee also increased cup clearance to nearly six inches (5.9 in.) and reinforced the front panel to reduce flex when locking in the portafilter.

Serviceable, Quiet Operation

Engineered for longevity and low noise, the Duetto IV Plus features updated motor mounts, a quieter rotary pump, a solid-state relay (SSR) and magnetic drip-tray dampening to reduce vibration and sonority. It’s also easier to service—motor inverted above the pump to avoid leak damage, accessible pump adjustment screw, boiler drain plugs, and two-screw heating element access for simpler repairs.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Home users upgrading from a single-boiler or HX machine — Dual PID-controlled boilers eliminate the temperature compromises that make you choose between brewing and steaming
  • Enthusiasts who value rotary pump quiet and plumb-in capability — The Alex Duetto gives you the option to connect to a water line now or later
  • Light commercial or B&B coffee programs — Enough thermal mass and steam capacity for 10–20 drinks daily without commercial-grade maintenance demands

It's Right For You If:

  • You are pulling 4–20 shots daily and want true simultaneous brew and steam with PID precision on both boilers.
  • You have a 220V outlet (or plan to install one) and counter space for a full-size Italian dual boiler.
  • You want the option to plumb in — the rotary pump and included kit make this flexible for either setup.

Things to Consider:

  • The 0.8L brew boiler is a good size for home use but will not match the recovery of machines with 1.5L+ brew boilers during sustained entertaining.
  • E61 groups need 15–20 minutes to fully stabilize — budget for a smart plug if morning speed matters.
  • The flow control upgrade is available but not stock — if pressure profiling is a priority, consider a machine that includes it from the factory.

Our Take:

The Alex Duetto IV Plus is the quiet standout of the prosumer dual-boiler world — it does everything well without making a big deal about it. If you are stepping up from a heat exchanger and want the thermal stability of independent boilers with the flexibility of a rotary pump, this is one of the most proven platforms on the market.

The Duetto IV Plus

Innovative and professional, suitable for domestic use, named Duetto from its capacity to manage separately both steam and coffee delivery with a dual boiler system. This prosumer espresso machine is solidly built from stainless steel and is very aesthetically pleasing.

It can work with a water tank or can be plumbed directly. It is equipped with an E61 group, pre-infusion, plumb-in or water reservoir options, a professional and noiseless rotary pump and a thermo regulation managed by a PID (added controlled temperature stability) which now features a shot timer.

The new Duetto IV Plus features a new tank design which allows for ease of access to the tanks and heating elements and now both tanks now have drain plugs. The new motor has been installed vertically over the pump thus eliminating the concern of the water leaking into the motor. It is now also possible to adjust the pump without dissembling the machine by way of a small cutout in the bottom side panel. The new upgrades all add up to an amazing new design of the Alex Duetto.

PID Controls

Some of the functions of the PID include:

  • Controls the temperature in the group boiler AND the steam boiler. (No Pressure stat)
  • Easily changes the machines operational mode from 15 amps to 20 amps.
  • Temperature display easily changed from Fahrenheit to Celsius.
  • Can program the offset settings for both boilers.
  • Default values for P, I, and D can be changed (please consult with our Service Department prior to changing).
  • Either boiler can be turned off. (save energy and turn the steam boiler off if you only want espresso)
  • Note: You can also turn the steam boiler on and off with a switch on the side of the machine.

Because it is a double boiler espresso machine, the Duetto IV is a wonderful tool for both traditional espresso and milk based drinks and it is a quiet worker. Whether at home or in the office this sleek, conversation starter will quickly and quietly perform.

Water Quality & Machine Protection

Proper water quality is essential for optimal espresso extraction and long-term machine health. Use the guidelines below to ensure your machine performs at its best.

Parameter Ideal Range Why It Matters
Total Hardness 50-170 ppm Prevents scale buildup while maintaining flavor
pH Level 6.5-7.5 Ensures balanced extraction and protects internal components
Chlorine 0 ppm Eliminates off-flavors and prevents corrosion
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) 70-150 ppm Optimal mineral content for extraction and taste
Total Alkalinity ~7.0 Stabilizes acidity and extraction
Chloride 0-28 ppm Prevents corrosion (especially in steel boilers)

Important Note

Always refer to your machine's manual for specific water quality recommendations and maintenance schedules.

Advisory

Install a water filtration system to maintain consistent water quality and extend the life of your espresso machine.

What This Means

  • Water that’s too hard → scale buildup, reduced performance
  • Water that’s too soft → flat, dull espresso
  • Improper water can damage internal components over time

Machine-Specific Considerations

  • These guidelines are safe for most home espresso machines
  • Some machines (especially with stainless steel boilers) require stricter limits on chlorides

Product FAQ

Does the Izzo Alex Duetto IV Plus have a rotary pump or a vibratory pump?

The Izzo Alex Duetto IV Plus is equipped with a quiet rotary pump, which provides more consistent pressure and allows for direct plumbing to a water line in addition to using the onboard water reservoir.

Can the Alex Duetto IV Plus be both tank-fed and direct plumbed to a water line?

Yes. The machine can be used in dual mode: it has an internal water reservoir for pour-over use and can also be directly plumbed into a water line. A switch and included fittings allow you to select your preferred mode during installation.

Does this machine have true dual boilers, and can I control their temperatures separately?

Yes. The Alex Duetto IV Plus is a dual-boiler espresso machine with a dedicated brew boiler and a separate steam boiler. Each boiler’s temperature can be set independently via the PID controller, so you can fine-tune brew temperature and steam performance separately.

Is there pre-infusion on the Alex Duetto IV Plus, and can it be adjusted?

The machine offers pre-infusion through the E61 group head, which naturally provides a gentle ramp-up in pressure. On a plumbed setup, you can also enable line-pressure pre-infusion. The length and style of pre-infusion can be influenced by how you program the pump and use the lever, but there is no separate electronic pre-infusion timer in the PID menu.

Does it include cool-touch (no-burn) steam and hot water wands?

Yes. The Alex Duetto IV Plus comes with insulated, cool-touch steam and hot water wands. These are designed to stay cooler to the touch, reduce the risk of burns, and help prevent milk from sticking to the steam wand.

What kind of power requirements does this machine have, and can it run on a standard US household outlet?

The Alex Duetto IV Plus is designed for standard US household power. It runs on 110–120V at 15A and can be plugged into a regular grounded kitchen outlet. Always confirm the exact electrical specifications on the machine’s rating plate and ensure the outlet is properly grounded.

How long does the Alex Duetto IV Plus take to heat up for brewing and steaming?

From a cold start, you can usually pull a shot in about 15–20 minutes once the brew boiler and group are up to temperature. For full steam power and complete thermal stability of the group head and boilers, plan on approximately 25–30 minutes of warm-up time.

Is the PID controller user-adjustable, and can I turn the steam boiler off to save energy?

Yes. The PID is user-adjustable, allowing you to fine-tune brew and steam temperatures. You can also switch off the steam boiler while leaving the brew boiler on, which saves energy and is useful if you are only pulling espresso and not using steam.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 30 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is your responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be your responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If your location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain your responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
