The Duetto IV Plus
Innovative and professional, suitable for domestic use, named Duetto from its capacity to manage separately both steam and coffee delivery with a dual boiler system. This prosumer espresso machine is solidly built from stainless steel and is very aesthetically pleasing.
It can work with a water tank or can be plumbed directly. It is equipped with an E61 group, pre-infusion, plumb-in or water reservoir options, a professional and noiseless rotary pump and a thermo regulation managed by a PID (added controlled temperature stability) which now features a shot timer.
The new Duetto IV Plus features a new tank design which allows for ease of access to the tanks and heating elements and now both tanks now have drain plugs. The new motor has been installed vertically over the pump thus eliminating the concern of the water leaking into the motor. It is now also possible to adjust the pump without dissembling the machine by way of a small cutout in the bottom side panel. The new upgrades all add up to an amazing new design of the Alex Duetto.
PID Controls
Some of the functions of the PID include:
- Controls the temperature in the group boiler AND the steam boiler. (No Pressure stat)
- Easily changes the machines operational mode from 15 amps to 20 amps.
- Temperature display easily changed from Fahrenheit to Celsius.
- Can program the offset settings for both boilers.
- Default values for P, I, and D can be changed (please consult with our Service Department prior to changing).
- Either boiler can be turned off. (save energy and turn the steam boiler off if you only want espresso)
- Note: You can also turn the steam boiler on and off with a switch on the side of the machine.
Because it is a double boiler espresso machine, the Duetto IV is a wonderful tool for both traditional espresso and milk based drinks and it is a quiet worker. Whether at home or in the office this sleek, conversation starter will quickly and quietly perform.

Water Quality & Machine Protection
Proper water quality is essential for optimal espresso extraction and long-term machine health. Use the guidelines below to ensure your machine performs at its best.
| Parameter | Ideal Range | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Total Hardness | 50-170 ppm | Prevents scale buildup while maintaining flavor |
| pH Level | 6.5-7.5 | Ensures balanced extraction and protects internal components |
| Chlorine | 0 ppm | Eliminates off-flavors and prevents corrosion |
| TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) | 70-150 ppm | Optimal mineral content for extraction and taste |
| Total Alkalinity | ~7.0 | Stabilizes acidity and extraction |
| Chloride | 0-28 ppm | Prevents corrosion (especially in steel boilers) |
Important Note
Always refer to your machine's manual for specific water quality recommendations and maintenance schedules.
Advisory
Install a water filtration system to maintain consistent water quality and extend the life of your espresso machine.
What This Means
- Water that’s too hard → scale buildup, reduced performance
- Water that’s too soft → flat, dull espresso
- Improper water can damage internal components over time
Machine-Specific Considerations
- These guidelines are safe for most home espresso machines
- Some machines (especially with stainless steel boilers) require stricter limits on chlorides
What We'd Tell You In Store
How to Choose a Home Espresso Machine
The machine that's right for someone who wants great espresso with minimal daily effort is not the same machine that's right for someone who wants to learn pressure profiling. Before you look at specs or prices, two questions do most of the work: how involved do you want to be, and what's your realistic total budget — including the grinder.
Lever and Paddle Espresso Machines: How Much Control Do You Want?
A standard espresso machine makes one decision for you: how the shot is extracted. Paddle machines, spring levers, and direct lever machines give that decision back — in increasing degrees, and with increasing demands on the person holding the lever. This guide covers the full spectrum.
How to Pick Out a Home Grinder
The grinder is the part of your espresso setup that most people buy last and most people wish they'd bought better first. Every shot you pull — its extraction speed, its flavor, its consistency from one morning to the next — is determined first at the grinder. A great machine cannot fix a poor grind.
Setting Up Your Home Espresso Machine Right
The decisions made in the first few days — where the machine lives, what water goes through it, how the workflow is arranged around it — determine a lot about whether espresso becomes a daily ritual you look forward to or a recurring source of frustration.
