Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

There comes a point where a pump-driven machine feels like it’s doing too much of the work for you. Moving to a manual lever is less about convenience and more about the tactile feedback of the pull, where you decide exactly how the pressure profile develops in the cup. The integrated boiler manometer provides the data you need to time your extraction, but the results remain entirely dependent on your hands and your patience. This is the machine for the kitchen counter that finally demands your full attention.

Product Features

Brass Boiler & Group

Both the boiler and brewing unit are brass — a material that holds heat longer than stainless and distributes it more evenly than aluminum. That thermal mass keeps the group at extraction temperature between pulls and reduces shot-to-shot variance as you dial in grind and dose.

Manual Pressure

The Milano is a spring-piston lever machine that puts extraction pressure directly in your hands. Pulling and releasing the lever controls the pressure profile — no pump, no automation between you and the shot. That tactile connection rewards practice and makes every cup a deliberate act.

Pressurestat + Boiler Manometer

Built-in Pressurestat together with a Boiler Manometer and a Temperature light indicator give you both control and visual feedback on brew conditions. Those tools make it simpler to hit repeatable pressure and temperature targets for consistent home shots.

Steam Wand Texture

The chromed brass steam wand uses a 3-hole, 1.2 mm nozzle to deliver focused, consistent steam for milk texturing and cappuccino work. The narrow tip keeps steam velocity controlled — useful when you're dialling in microfoam for latte art at home.

1.6 L Water Tank

A 1.6 L tank with a built-in water level indicator covers a typical morning session without constant refilling. The visible level lets you check supply at a glance before you begin pulling shots.

Compact Chrome Presence

Chrome-finished steel build and a 7.9" × 14.8" × 19.1" footprint make the Milano substantial enough to anchor a counter without demanding a dedicated espresso station. It's built to be both a daily workhorse and a permanent fixture in the kitchen.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Hobbyists who want manual control — The lever operation gives you direct, tactile pressure profiling that no pump-driven machine can replicate, and the integrated boiler manometer lets you track extraction data in real time
  • Home users upgrading from entry-level espresso — If you have mastered the basics on a pump machine and want to feel exactly what is happening inside the group head, this is the next step
  • Enthusiasts who treat espresso as a craft — The manual lever demands your full attention every shot, which is either a dealbreaker or the entire reason you are buying it

It's Right For You If:

  • You pull 2–6 shots a day and want a machine that rewards technique rather than automating it away.
  • You have patience for a 45–120 minute warm-up time and understand that thermal management is part of the lever workflow.
  • You are pairing this with a capable burr grinder and a scale — because without consistent dosing, the lever will amplify your inconsistencies, not hide them.

Things to Consider:

  • Lever machines demand a real learning curve — expect a week of mediocre shots before you start feeling the rhythm, and a few months before you are consistently pulling what you know the machine is capable of.
  • Temperature management is manual and unforgiving: the group head overheats after 3–4 consecutive shots, so entertaining a crowd means planning around cooling breaks.
  • The 51mm portafilter is non-standard, so most commercial accessories and precision baskets will not fit.

Our Take:

This is a machine for the person who has decided that the process of making espresso is as important as drinking it — the lever gives you control that no pump can match, but it expects you to show up and do the work. If you are the kind of person who finds satisfaction in mastering a physical skill over weeks and months, this will be the most rewarding machine you own.

Water Quality & Machine Protection

Proper water quality is essential for optimal espresso extraction and long-term machine health. Use the guidelines below to ensure your machine performs at its best.

Parameter Ideal Range Why It Matters
Total Hardness 50-170 ppm Prevents scale buildup while maintaining flavor
pH Level 6.5-7.5 Ensures balanced extraction and protects internal components
Chlorine 0 ppm Eliminates off-flavors and prevents corrosion
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) 70-150 ppm Optimal mineral content for extraction and taste
Total Alkalinity ~7.0 Stabilizes acidity and extraction
Chloride 0-28 ppm Prevents corrosion (especially in steel boilers)

Important Note

Always refer to your machine's manual for specific water quality recommendations and maintenance schedules.

Advisory

Install a water filtration system to maintain consistent water quality and extend the life of your espresso machine.

What This Means

  • Water that’s too hard → scale buildup, reduced performance
  • Water that’s too soft → flat, dull espresso
  • Improper water can damage internal components over time

Machine-Specific Considerations

  • These guidelines are safe for most home espresso machines
  • Some machines (especially with stainless steel boilers) require stricter limits on chlorides

Product FAQ

Does the La Pavoni Milano Chrome Lever Espresso machine use a rotary pump or a vibratory pump?

The La Pavoni Milano is a traditional manual lever machine and does not use a rotary or vibratory pump. Pressure is generated purely by the lever action and the operator’s force, which is part of the classic lever experience.

Does this machine offer any kind of pre-infusion, and is it manual or automatic?

Yes. As a manual lever machine, the La Pavoni Milano allows for manual pre-infusion. By lifting the lever and letting water gently saturate the coffee puck before applying full pressure, you can control the length and intensity of pre-infusion yourself. There is no timed or automatic pre-infusion program.

Is the La Pavoni Milano Chrome Lever Espresso machine direct-plumbed, or does it use a water reservoir?

The US version of the La Pavoni Milano Chrome Lever Espresso machine uses an internal water reservoir. It is not designed to be direct plumbed into a water line, so you fill and refill the built-in tank manually.

What kind of steam wand does it have, and is it cool-touch or no-burn?

The La Pavoni Milano features a traditional metal steam wand designed for strong, dry steam. It is not a cool-touch or no-burn wand, so it will get hot during use and should be handled carefully by using the rubber grip or knob.

What is the boiler material and capacity, and how long does it take to heat up?

The La Pavoni Milano typically uses a brass or copper boiler with a chrome exterior finish, offering good thermal stability. Capacity is usually around 1.0–1.6 liters (varies by specific Milano configuration). Heat-up time from cold is roughly 10–15 minutes for brewing, with a bit longer to reach full steam strength.

Does the machine support 58 mm commercial portafilters, and what baskets are included?

Most La Pavoni Milano lever units use a 58 mm commercial-size group and portafilter, compatible with standard 58 mm baskets and many third-party accessories. The machine typically ships with both single and double shot filter baskets; check the specific retailer listing for the exact included basket set.

Is this machine suitable for beginners, or is there a learning curve to pulling consistent shots?

There is a noticeable learning curve. Because it is a fully manual lever machine, shot quality depends heavily on grind size, dose, tamp, and how you control the lever pressure and timing. Beginners can use it, but should expect some practice before getting consistent, café-quality shots.

Does the La Pavoni Milano have a pressure gauge or PID temperature control for more precise brewing?

Most La Pavoni Milano lever models include a boiler pressure gauge so you can monitor steam and boiler pressure. They generally do not include PID temperature control; temperature is managed via the pressurestat and your workflow (flushes, timing, and warm-up routine) rather than precise digital temperature profiling.

How does free installation work?

We want to make your purchase as smooth as possible and will pay the installation via rebate on commercial espresso machines. This includes commercial machines with more than 1 group head and 220V.

If the certified installer needed is over 1.5 hours away then we will pay for the installation call (and install up to the value suggested on page minus call fee). Travel will be paid by customer. Inquire if you have any questions about your location.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 30 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is your responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be your responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If your location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain your responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
