Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

The PCW-16 is the machine for people who want to pull better shots than their cafés — and enjoy getting there. La Pavoni's mechanical lever gives you direct pressure control: pre-infusion, ramp, extraction, all in your hands. Underneath is a 1.6L nickel-plated brass boiler that retains heat better than modern stainless steel, in a chrome-and-wood body that has been in continuous production since 1975. That's not nostalgia. That's a design that got it right the first time.

Product Features

Manual Lever Pressure Control

The lever gives you direct mechanical pressure profiling from pre-infusion through extraction. Feather it for gentle pre-wetting, ramp up for full pressure. No machine decides how your shot should taste — you are the variable that matters.

1.6L Nickel-Plated Brass Boiler

The 1.6-liter nickel-plated brass boiler holds enough thermal mass for consistent pull-after-pull temperature. Brass retains heat better than stainless steel, which means less temperature drop between shots — helpful forgiveness when you're still learning the lever rhythm.

52mm Lever Portafilter

The PCW-16 uses the classic La Pavoni 52mm portafilter — the standard diameter for their lever machines. It's smaller than the commercial 58mm found on modern pump machines, which means standard baskets and tampers won't fit. La Pavoni sells compatible accessories, and the tradeoff is a more forgiving dose range for home users still dialing in their lever technique.

Chrome Body with Wood Accents

Chrome-plated solid brass body with turned wood handles on the lever, portafilter, and steam knob. This design has been in continuous production since 1975 — it's what a lever machine looks like when it's built to stay on your counter for decades.

110V US-Ready

Plugs into a standard 110V outlet. 1000W heating element with a reset fuse. No electrician, no voltage converter, no surprises.

Steam Wand & Auto Frother

The chrome steam wand delivers real microfoam for lattes and cappuccinos, with an included automatic cappuccino frother attachment for when you want consistently textured milk without the wand technique. Standard chrome-on-brass construction — it gets hot. Be deliberate about positioning.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Hobbyists who want manual control — The lever gives you tactile pressure profiling that no pump-driven machine can replicate.
  • Aspiring home baristas — The learning curve is steep but the payoff is real. Every shot is a lesson.
  • Entertainers — 1.6L boiler and 16-cup capacity make it the lever machine for dinner parties and weekend brunches.

It's Right For You If:

  • You pull 2–8 shots a day and want a machine that rewards technique rather than automating it away.
  • You're willing to invest the time to learn lever extraction — the first week is humbling, after that it's addictive.
  • You want a machine that looks as good as it makes espresso and will still be on your counter in 20 years.

Things to Consider:

  • Lever machines demand real practice — expect a week of frustrating shots before you start feeling the rhythm, and a month before you're pulling consistently great espresso.
  • Thermal management is manual — the boiler recovers between shots, but rapid-fire consecutive pulls without a pause will drift your brew temperature. Plan your workflow.

Our Take:

The PCW-16 is the real lever experience at a price that makes sense for the home barista who wants to earn their shots. The 1.6L brass boiler, the chrome-and-wood body, the mechanical lever — nothing about it is pretending to be something it's not. If you want push-button convenience, look elsewhere. If you want to understand espresso on a deeper level, this is the machine.

Professional Lever Espresso Machine

Easily pull shots and make one or two cups at a time with the La Pavoni lever espresso machine. It has a small footprint so it can easily be set up on your kitchen counter. The Professional series features internal thermostats that continuously monitor pressure, solid brass boilers and stainless steel heating elements.

Chrome Espresso Machine

Hand-made with the best materials this is an iconic work of art. Chromed tank with chrome metal base and wood accents, 8 cup capacity, makes 1 or 2 cups at a time. It features an internal thermostat and reset fuse along with a steam wand and additional cappuccino automatic frother.

Manometer

Manometer Mounted

This espresso machine includes a pressure gauge for monitoring boiler pressure, which varies from 0 to 2.5 bar. The manual advises maintaining the boiler pressure within the range of 0.6 to 1 bar, ensuring that the water temperature inside the boiler reaches around 94 degrees Celsius.

Wooden Handles

What sets this lever espresso machine apart is its attention to detail. Pull your shots in style with wooden accents on all handles.

Manual Espresso Maker

An espresso lever machine, or manual espresso maker, uses a hand-operated lever to brew espresso. In contrast to contemporary automated models, lever machines empower you to oversee the entire brewing procedure. The basic principle remains consistent: pressurize a small quantity of water through finely ground coffee beans to yield a potent and flavorful cup of espresso.

While there is a learning curve and regular maintenance required, the dual frothing cappuccino systems and large boiler capacity make it a great choice for entertaining or for use at home or in a small café. It has a small footprint so it can easily be set up on your kitchen counter.

Water Quality & Machine Protection

Proper water quality is essential for optimal espresso extraction and long-term machine health. Use the guidelines below to ensure your machine performs at its best.

Parameter Ideal Range Why It Matters
Total Hardness 50-170 ppm Prevents scale buildup while maintaining flavor
pH Level 6.5-7.5 Ensures balanced extraction and protects internal components
Chlorine 0 ppm Eliminates off-flavors and prevents corrosion
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) 70-150 ppm Optimal mineral content for extraction and taste
Total Alkalinity ~7.0 Stabilizes acidity and extraction
Chloride 0-28 ppm Prevents corrosion (especially in steel boilers)

Important Note

Always refer to your machine's manual for specific water quality recommendations and maintenance schedules.

Advisory

Install a water filtration system to maintain consistent water quality and extend the life of your espresso machine.

What This Means

  • Water that’s too hard → scale buildup, reduced performance
  • Water that’s too soft → flat, dull espresso
  • Improper water can damage internal components over time

Machine-Specific Considerations

  • These guidelines are safe for most home espresso machines
  • Some machines (especially with stainless steel boilers) require stricter limits on chlorides

Product FAQ

Does the La Pavoni Professional PCW-16 use a pump, or is it a manual lever-only machine?

The La Pavoni Professional PCW-16 is a traditional manual lever espresso machine and does not use a pump. Pressure is created entirely by you through the lever, giving you direct control over the extraction.

Does this machine have pre-infusion, and can it be adjusted?

The PCW-16 offers manual pre-infusion by design. When you raise the lever, water from the boiler saturates the coffee puck at low pressure before you pull down to extract. There is no timed or programmable pre-infusion; it’s controlled entirely by how long you keep the lever raised.

Is the La Pavoni Professional PCW-16 a direct-plumb machine or tank-only?

This model is tank-only. It has an internal boiler that you fill manually and it is not designed to be direct-plumbed into a water line.

Does it have a cool‑touch or no‑burn steam wand?

No. The steam wand on the PCW-16 is a traditional single-wall metal wand and will get hot during use. You should use the attached rubber grip (if included) or a towel and avoid touching the metal directly after steaming.

What kind of power and voltage does this US version require, and can I use it on a standard kitchen outlet?

The US version of the La Pavoni Professional PCW-16 runs on 110–120V, 60Hz and is designed for standard North American household outlets. Check the product label for the exact wattage, but it typically draws around 1000–1200 watts, so it should be used on a dedicated or lightly loaded circuit.

What is the boiler capacity and how many shots can I pull before needing to refill?

The Professional PCW-16 has approximately a 1.6-liter boiler. In practical use, you can usually pull 8–16 espresso shots per fill, depending on shot volume, steaming, and how often you open the steam wand. The machine must be turned off and depressurized before refilling.

Does the PCW-16 include a pressure gauge or PID temperature control?

The Professional PCW-16 includes a boiler pressure gauge so you can monitor boiler pressure and know when it’s ready to brew or steam. It does not have PID temperature control; temperature is managed by a thermostat and your technique (flushing, warm‑up time, and shot timing).

What size portafilter does it use, and is it compatible with standard 51mm baskets and tampers?

The La Pavoni Professional lever machines, including the PCW-16, use a 51mm portafilter. You should use 51mm baskets and a 52mm tamper; standard 58mm commercial baskets and tampers will not fit.

How does free installation work?

We want to make your purchase as smooth as possible and will pay the installation via rebate on commercial espresso machines. This includes commercial machines with more than 1 group head and 220V.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 30 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is your responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be your responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If your location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain your responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
