Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

At some point, pushing a button stops being enough and you start wanting to feel the physical resistance of the water against the coffee. The Professional Chrome is designed for the person who treats their morning espresso as a deliberate exercise in manual pressure profiling rather than a task to be automated. Relying on piston-operated lever control means you are the one responsible for the texture of the crema and the clarity of the shot. It takes a week to learn and a lifetime to master, which is exactly why you are looking at it.

Product Features

Piston-Operated Lever Control

This machine is piston operated and uses Manual Pressure brewing, putting tactile control of the extraction in your hands so you can practice timing and pressure on each pull. The classic lever action rewards hands-on dialing for nuanced flavor development.

Generous 1.6 L Boiler

The 54 oz. (1.6-liter) boiler gives you stable temperature and ample steam for multiple drinks without long recovery times, so you can pull an espresso and texture milk in one flow. That larger capacity is ideal for home rituals where you want consistent shots and reliable steaming between cups.

Mounted Gauge + Pressurestat / Internal Thermostat

A mounted pressure gauge (boiler manometer) combined with a pressurestat/internal thermostat lets you monitor and maintain extraction pressure in real time for repeatable results. Visible pressure feedback helps you learn how small adjustments affect the shot.

Steam Wand With 3-Hole Nozzle

The chromed brass Steam Wand features a 3 holes Nozzle Ø 1,2 mm to deliver consistent steam flow for creamy microfoam suitable for latte art. Robust construction and a focused nozzle make texturing milk more predictable for home practice.

Brass Brewing Unit & Chromed Build

A brass brewing unit and chromed brass body provide thermal stability and classic Italian styling that supports consistent heat transfer during extraction. Made in Italy craftsmanship gives the machine a durable feel and timeless presence on your counter.

Everyday Safety & Usability

Practical features—like a water level indicator, an internal re-set switch in case of overheating, and included 1 cup / 2 cups filters with tamper—make routine use more forgiving and faster to set up. The US version operates at 110 V / 950 W for straightforward plug-in operation.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Hobbyists who want manual control — The piston-operated lever gives you direct pressure profiling responsibility, putting the texture of the crema and clarity of the shot entirely in your hands
  • Home users upgrading from entry-level espresso — If you have mastered the basics on a pump machine and want to feel exactly what is happening inside the group head, this is the next step
  • Enthusiasts who treat espresso as a craft — It takes a week to learn and a lifetime to master, which is exactly why you are looking at it

It's Right For You If:

  • You pull 2–6 shots a day and want a machine that rewards technique rather than automating it away.
  • You are pairing this with a capable burr grinder and a scale — because without consistent dosing, the lever will amplify your inconsistencies, not hide them.
  • You have counter space for a full-sized 16-cup lever machine and a 120V outlet.

Things to Consider:

  • Lever machines demand a real learning curve — expect a week of mediocre shots before you start feeling the rhythm, and a few months before you are consistently pulling what you know the machine is capable of.
  • Temperature management is manual: the group head needs cooling breaks between consecutive shots, so this is not the machine for entertaining a crowd without planning ahead.
  • The 51mm portafilter is non-standard, so most commercial accessories and precision baskets will not fit.

Our Take:

The Professional Chrome is the classic La Pavoni workhorse — large brass boiler, chrome finish, and a lever that puts every variable of the extraction in your hands. If you are the kind of person who finds the morning ritual more satisfying when you have earned the shot, this machine will be on your counter for decades.

Professional Lever Espresso Machine

Easily pull shots and make one or two cups at a time with the La Pavoni lever espresso machine. It has a small footprint so it can easily be set up on your kitchen counter. The Professional series features internal thermostats that continuously monitor pressure, solid brass boilers and stainless steel heating elements.

Manometer Mounted

This professional version includes a pressure gauge for monitoring boiler pressure, which varies from 0 to 2.5 bar. The manual advises maintaining the boiler pressure within the range of 0.6 to 1 bar, ensuring that the water temperature inside the boiler reaches around 94 degrees Celsius.

Chrome Espresso Machine

Hand-made with the best materials this is an iconic work of art. Chromed tank with chrome metal base and wood accents, 16 cup capacity, makes 1 or 2 cups at a time. It features an internal thermostat and reset fuse along with a steam wand and additional cappuccino automatic frother.

Manual Espresso Maker

An espresso lever machine, or manual espresso maker, uses a hand-operated lever to brew espresso. In contrast to contemporary automated models, lever machines empower you to oversee the entire brewing procedure. The basic principle remains consistent: pressurize a small quantity of water through finely ground coffee beans to yield a potent and flavorful cup of espresso.

While there is a learning curve and regular maintenance required, the dual frothing cappuccino systems and large boiler capacity make it a great choice for entertaining or for use at home or in a small café. It has a small footprint so it can easily be set up on your kitchen counter.

Water Quality & Machine Protection

Proper water quality is essential for optimal espresso extraction and long-term machine health. Use the guidelines below to ensure your machine performs at its best.

Parameter Ideal Range Why It Matters
Total Hardness 50-170 ppm Prevents scale buildup while maintaining flavor
pH Level 6.5-7.5 Ensures balanced extraction and protects internal components
Chlorine 0 ppm Eliminates off-flavors and prevents corrosion
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) 70-150 ppm Optimal mineral content for extraction and taste
Total Alkalinity ~7.0 Stabilizes acidity and extraction
Chloride 0-28 ppm Prevents corrosion (especially in steel boilers)

Important Note

Always refer to your machine's manual for specific water quality recommendations and maintenance schedules.

Advisory

Install a water filtration system to maintain consistent water quality and extend the life of your espresso machine.

What This Means

  • Water that’s too hard → scale buildup, reduced performance
  • Water that’s too soft → flat, dull espresso
  • Improper water can damage internal components over time

Machine-Specific Considerations

  • These guidelines are safe for most home espresso machines
  • Some machines (especially with stainless steel boilers) require stricter limits on chlorides

Product FAQ

Does the La Pavoni Professional PC-16 use a pump or is it a completely manual lever machine?

The La Pavoni Professional PC-16 is a fully manual lever espresso machine and does not use a pump of any kind (no vibratory or rotary pump). Pressure is generated entirely by the user pulling the lever.

Is there any kind of pre‑infusion on this machine, or can I manually pre‑infuse the coffee puck?

There is no automatic, programmed pre‑infusion. However, you can manually create pre‑infusion by gently lowering the lever partway to allow water to saturate the coffee puck before completing the pull. This is a common technique used by lever‑machine owners.

Can the La Pavoni Professional PC-16 be direct‑plumbed into a water line, or is it strictly a pour‑over machine?

The PC-16 is a pour‑over (tank) machine only. It does not support direct plumbing to a water line; you fill the boiler manually from the top and it operates off the built‑in water reservoir/boiler.

What kind of steam wand does it have, and is it a cool‑touch or no‑burn design?

The PC-16 comes with a traditional metal steam wand and is not a cool‑touch or no‑burn wand. The wand does get hot during use, so you should use the plastic handle or a cloth when adjusting or cleaning it.

Does the La Pavoni Professional PC-16 have a built‑in grinder or do I need a separate grinder?

The PC-16 does not include a built‑in grinder. You will need a separate espresso‑capable grinder that can produce fine, consistent grinds suitable for manual lever machines.

What is the boiler capacity and how many shots can I pull before needing to refill?

The La Pavoni Professional PC-16 has a 1.6-liter boiler. In practical use, this typically allows for around 8–16 espresso shots per fill, depending on shot size, steaming usage, and how long the machine has been on. Always allow the machine to cool and release pressure safely before refilling.

Does it have a built‑in PID or digital temperature control, and how is brew temperature managed?

The PC-16 does not have a PID or digital temperature controller. It uses pressurestats and indicator lights to control boiler pressure and temperature. Temperature is managed by allowing proper warm‑up time, using cooling or warming flushes, and timing your pulls based on the boiler pressure and your workflow.

Is the machine 110/120V for US use, and what are the power requirements?

Yes, the US version of the La Pavoni Professional PC-16 is designed for 110/120V, 60 Hz power. It typically draws about 1000–1100 watts, so it can be used on a standard US household circuit.

How does free installation work?

We want to make your purchase as smooth as possible and will pay the installation via rebate on commercial espresso machines. This includes commercial machines with more than 1 group head and 220V.

If the certified installer needed is over 1.5 hours away then we will pay for the installation call (and install up to the value suggested on page minus call fee). Travel will be paid by customer. Inquire if you have any questions about your location.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 30 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is your responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be your responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If your location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain your responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
