Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

Most people are content to let a vibration pump do the work, but you’ve reached the stage where you want to feel the exact resistance of the coffee puck through your own palm. This is a machine for the barista who has moved past the novelty of automation and into the pursuit of a manual ritual that yields a specific, textured result. The Stradivari wood trim signals that this is an instrument intended for a lifetime of use rather than another piece of disposable kitchen electronics. You are no longer just making coffee; you are finally controlling the physics of the extraction.

Product Features

Triple-Chrome Brass Boiler

The machine uses solid brass boilers, triple chrome plated for durability and consistent heat retention. That construction helps stabilize brew temperature shot to shot, a key factor for repeatable extraction and long service life.

Generous Boiler Capacity

38oz. boiler capacity lets you brew sustained runs without constant refills — the PSW-16 makes 16, 2 oz. cups of espresso, so it handles busy mornings or a small café service while maintaining thermal reserves for consistent extraction.

Pressure Monitoring Gauge

A mounted pressure gauge gives you real-time readout of extraction pressure so you can dial shots with confidence. Visible pressure feedback is essential for diagnosing puck resistance and fine-tuning technique on a lever machine.

Stradivari Wood Trim

Available in the PSW-16 finish with wood handles and knobs, the Stradivari draws on Antonio Stradivari inspiration for a tactile, heirloom aesthetic. The wooden accents offer a warm, tactile interface that complements the machine’s chrome presentation.

Discreet Power Controls

Recessed power switch and power button keep the profile clean and reduce accidental activation during service. The thoughtful control placement supports a neater workflow behind the lever and group area.

US Power & Safety

This US version is rated Volt 110, 1000 watts and includes a reset fuse for practical safety and compatibility with domestic outlets. Knowing the electrical spec up front makes installation planning straightforward for home or small commercial setups.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Hobbyists who want manual control — The lever operation gives you direct, tactile pressure profiling that no pump-driven machine can replicate, and the 38oz boiler capacity provides enough volume to serve a small group
  • Home users upgrading from entry-level espresso — If you have mastered the basics on a pump machine and want to feel exactly what is happening inside the group head, this is the next step
  • Enthusiasts who treat espresso as a craft — You stop watching a timer and start feeling the resistance of the puck, which is either a dealbreaker or the entire reason you are buying it

It's Right For You If:

  • You pull 2–8 shots a day and want a machine that rewards technique rather than automating it away.
  • You are pairing this with a capable burr grinder and a scale — because without consistent dosing, the lever will amplify your inconsistencies, not hide them.
  • You want a 16-cup machine that can entertain a small group and have counter space for a full-sized lever machine with a 120V outlet.

Things to Consider:

  • Lever machines demand a real learning curve — expect a week of mediocre shots before you start feeling the rhythm, and a few months before you are consistently pulling what you know the machine is capable of.
  • Manual lever operation and thermal instability prevent rapid sequential service — plan for 2–3 back-to-back drinks maximum before the group head needs cooling.
  • The 51mm portafilter is non-standard, so most commercial accessories and precision baskets will not fit.

Our Take:

The Stradivari 16 Cup is the La Pavoni for people who want to entertain with a lever machine — the larger boiler means you can serve a few drinks without constant refilling, but the lever still demands the same skill and attention as every other La Pavoni. If you want a machine that is as much a conversation piece as it is a tool, this is the one that will get people talking.

Made for USA and North American Market

At Coffeeionado, we offer a range of La Pavoni espresso machines specifically designed for the North American market with compatible voltage and plug options. These machines are tailored to meet the electrical standards and preferences of American and Canadian users, ensuring seamless functionality without any adapter hassle.

Ease of Use

Using the La Pavoni PSW-16 Professional Stradivari Lever Espresso Coffee Machine may seem daunting at first, but with a little practice, it becomes second nature. The manual pulling of shots takes some getting used to, but the reward is a delicious, rich espresso. You will need to experiment with the right roast and grind to get the perfect shot, but once you find it, you can consistently make great coffee.

Manometer

Manometer Mounted

This professional version includes a pressure gauge for monitoring boiler pressure, which varies from 0 to 2.5 bar. The manual advises maintaining the boiler pressure within the range of 0.6 to 1 bar, ensuring that the water temperature inside the boiler reaches around 94 degrees Celsius.

Wooden Handles

This espresso machine comes with wooden handles on the lever and portafilter along with wooden accents on the steam knob.

Dual Frothing Cappuccino Systems

If you're a cappuccino lover, you'll appreciate the La Pavoni PSW-16's dual frothing cappuccino systems. This feature allows you to froth milk for your cappuccinos to your liking. The internal thermostat ensures that the milk is heated to the right temperature for frothing. With this machine, you can make up to 16 cups of espresso, each measuring 2 ounces.

Manual Espresso Maker

An espresso lever machine, or manual espresso maker, uses a hand-operated lever to brew espresso. In contrast to contemporary automated models, lever machines empower you to oversee the entire brewing procedure. The basic principle remains consistent: pressurize a small quantity of water through finely ground coffee beans to yield a potent and flavorful cup of espresso.

While there is a learning curve and regular maintenance required, the dual frothing cappuccino systems and large boiler capacity make it a great choice for entertaining or for use at home or in a small café. It has a small footprint so it can easily be set up on your kitchen counter.

Fine Italian Espresso Brand

Established in 1905, La Pavoni has been producing fine Italian-made espresso machines for over 115 years. This long history of crafting exceptional products have earned them a well-deserved reputation as one of the best manufacturers in the industry. Their range of products includes both domestic and professional-grade models, giving you plenty of options when choosing an espresso machine for your lifestyle and budget.

What's Included?

When you order your La Pavoni espresso machine from us, you will receive your machine along with a scoop, coffee baskets (7g, 14g), and a double spout portafilter.

Water Quality & Machine Protection

Proper water quality is essential for optimal espresso extraction and long-term machine health. Use the guidelines below to ensure your machine performs at its best.

Parameter Ideal Range Why It Matters
Total Hardness 50-170 ppm Prevents scale buildup while maintaining flavor
pH Level 6.5-7.5 Ensures balanced extraction and protects internal components
Chlorine 0 ppm Eliminates off-flavors and prevents corrosion
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) 70-150 ppm Optimal mineral content for extraction and taste
Total Alkalinity ~7.0 Stabilizes acidity and extraction
Chloride 0-28 ppm Prevents corrosion (especially in steel boilers)

Important Note

Always refer to your machine's manual for specific water quality recommendations and maintenance schedules.

Advisory

Install a water filtration system to maintain consistent water quality and extend the life of your espresso machine.

What This Means

  • Water that’s too hard → scale buildup, reduced performance
  • Water that’s too soft → flat, dull espresso
  • Improper water can damage internal components over time

Machine-Specific Considerations

  • These guidelines are safe for most home espresso machines
  • Some machines (especially with stainless steel boilers) require stricter limits on chlorides

Product FAQ

Does the La Pavoni Stradivari 16 Cup (PSW-16) have a pump (vibration or rotary), or is it a manual lever-only machine?

The Stradivari 16 Cup PSW-16 is a traditional manual lever espresso machine with no pump (neither rotary nor vibration). Pressure is generated by manually pulling the lever, which gives the user direct control over extraction pressure and shot profile.

Does this machine offer any kind of pre-infusion, and can it be adjusted?

Yes. The Stradivari PSW-16 provides manual pre-infusion. When you raise the lever, water from the boiler soaks the coffee puck at low pressure before you pull the shot. Pre-infusion time and intensity are controlled entirely by how long and how far you raise the lever; there is no automatic or programmable pre-infusion.

Is the steam wand cool-touch or no-burn, and can it be used for both steaming and hot water?

The Stradivari PSW-16 uses a traditional stainless steel steam wand that gets hot during use and is not marketed as a cool-touch or no-burn wand. It is designed for steaming and frothing milk; hot water for Americanos is typically drawn through a separate hot-water tap or via the steam wand using a pitcher, depending on the specific configuration of the model sold.

Can the La Pavoni Stradivari PSW-16 be direct-plumbed into a water line, or is it strictly a pour-over machine?

The PSW-16 is a pour-over machine with an internal water reservoir/boiler that you fill manually. It is not designed to be direct plumbed into a water line. Users should refill the boiler as needed and follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully to avoid running the boiler dry.

What is the boiler capacity on the Stradivari 16 Cup (PSW-16), and how many shots can I realistically pull back-to-back?

The Stradivari PSW-16 has an approximately 38–40 oz (about 1.1–1.2 L) brass boiler, often advertised as a “16 cup” capacity. In practical home use, you can comfortably pull multiple shots back-to-back and steam milk without waiting for reheating, but you’ll want to allow some recovery time between heavy steaming and multiple extracts to maintain consistent temperature and pressure.

Does the machine have temperature or pressure gauges, PID control, or any automation to help with shot consistency?

The PSW-16 typically includes a boiler pressure gauge, but it does not have PID control or automated brewing. Temperature and pressure are managed through the built-in pressurestat and your lever technique. Consistency depends heavily on user skill—grind size, dose, tamp, warm-up time, and how you time and pull the lever.

What type and size of portafilter does the Stradivari 16 Cup use, and are standard 51 or 58 mm baskets compatible?

The La Pavoni Stradivari PSW-16 generally uses a 51 mm portafilter specific to La Pavoni lever machines. Standard 58 mm commercial baskets are not compatible. Many third-party baskets, tampers, and accessories are available in 51 mm, but you should verify compatibility is stated for La Pavoni lever models.

Is this 110V US version suitable for North American outlets, and does it require a dedicated circuit?

Yes. The PSW-16 in the 110V US version is designed for standard North American household outlets (typically 110–120V, 60 Hz). Power draw is usually around 1,000–1,100 watts, so while a dedicated circuit is not strictly required in most homes, it is best to avoid running other high-wattage appliances on the same circuit to prevent tripping breakers.

How does free installation work?

We want to make your purchase as smooth as possible and will pay the installation via rebate on commercial espresso machines. This includes commercial machines with more than 1 group head and 220V.

If the certified installer needed is over 1.5 hours away then we will pay for the installation call (and install up to the value suggested on page minus call fee). Travel will be paid by customer. Inquire if you have any questions about your location.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 30 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is your responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be your responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If your location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain your responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
