Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

The 0.8-liter boiler isn't designed for a dinner party, but it is exactly the right size for the person who cares more about the nuance of two shots than the speed of ten. This machine trades electronic convenience for a piston-operated lever that communicates exactly how your grind is behaving mid-pull. Adding a pressure gauge to this classic design means you no longer have to develop a sixth sense for bars of pressure; you simply watch the needle and adjust your physical input. It turns the morning routine into a deliberate practice rather than a chore.

Product Features

Piston-Operated Lever

The piston operated lever gives direct, tactile control over extraction so you can shape pressure and flow by feel. The Europiccola’s classic lever action — a design in production since 1961 — rewards practice and becomes part of the daily coffee ritual.

0.8-Liter Boiler

The 0.8 liter (27 oz.) boiler stores enough heat to pull up to eight consecutive espressos, so you can make multiple single or double shots without long cooldowns. That capacity fits a focused at-home routine where you want steady output for morning servings or small gatherings.

Pressure Gauge

The integrated Pressure Gauge shows real-time extraction pressure, providing visual feedback that helps you correlate grind, dose and lever speed with shot results. Having that readout on the machine makes dialing in shots more methodical at home.

Internal Thermostat Control

An internal thermostat controls boiler pressure to keep temperature and pressure more consistent between shots, improving shot repeatability. That stability is especially helpful when you’re refining recipes and timings.

Internal Re-Set Switch

An internal re-set switch trips if the machine overheats, protecting components and allowing a simple recovery without immediate service. It’s a practical safety feature that helps preserve uptime during daily use.

Single Frothing Attachment

A single frothing attachment provides steam for cappuccinos and lattes directly from the machine, so you can work milk texture alongside your lever pulls. It keeps milk prep integrated into the home workflow without needing separate steam gear.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Hobbyists who want manual control — The lever operation gives you direct control over pressure profiling, letting you craft shots by feel and technique
  • Enthusiasts dialing in light roasts — Manual pressure control lets you experiment with pre-infusion and pressure curves that pump machines can't replicate
  • Collectors and design enthusiasts — The chrome Europiccola is an icon of Italian espresso design, handcrafted since 1961

It's Right For You If:

  • You enjoy the ritual of espresso making and want the machine to be part of the experience, not just a tool.
  • You're comfortable managing boiler temperature and pressure by feel — there's no PID, no automation, just you and the lever.
  • Your daily shot count is 2–6 shots — this machine rewards patience, not volume.

Things to Consider:

  • The 0.8L boiler means you'll need to manage temperature between shots — there's a learning curve to hitting consistent extraction temps.
  • No PID, no programmability, no shot timer — if you want data and repeatability, this isn't the machine for that workflow.
  • Single boiler means switching between brew and steam requires a temperature adjustment and a brief wait.

Our Take:

The Europiccola is a rite of passage for espresso enthusiasts — the lever teaches you things about extraction that no pump machine can, and the chrome build is genuinely beautiful on a countertop. We recommend it for people who want espresso to be a craft, not a convenience.

Featured Manometer

The pressure gauge on espresso machines is vital for producing top-notch espresso. It shows the pressure used to extract the coffee, ensuring that water passes through the grounds in the portafilter at the right force. Keeping this pressure steady is key to making excellent espresso shots every time.

James Bond Espresso Machine

In true classic fashion this is the James Bond espresso machine featured in the movies. It has inspired generations and continues to be a staple for home enthusiasts as the go-to for lever espresso machines.

Perfect Lever Espresso Machine for Your Kitchen

Easily pull shots and make one or two cups at a time with the La Pavoni lever espresso machine. It has a small footprint so it can easily be set up on your kitchen counter. The Europiccola features internal thermostats that continuously monitor pressure, solid brass boilers and stainless steel heating elements.

Ease of Use

Using the La Pavoni EPC-8 Europiccola Stradivari Lever Espresso Coffee Machine may seem daunting at first, but with a little practice, it becomes second nature. The manual pulling of shots takes some getting used to, but the reward is a delicious, rich espresso. You will need to experiment with the right roast and grind to get the perfect shot, but once you find it, you can consistently make great coffee.

Manual Espresso Maker

An espresso lever machine, or manual espresso maker, uses a hand-operated lever to brew espresso. In contrast to contemporary automated models, lever machines empower you to oversee the entire brewing procedure. The basic principle remains consistent: pressurize a small quantity of water through finely ground coffee beans to yield a potent and flavorful cup of espresso.

While there is a learning curve and regular maintenance required, the dual frothing cappuccino systems and large boiler capacity make it a great choice for entertaining or for use at home or in a small café. It has a small footprint so it can easily be set up on your kitchen counter.

Water Quality & Machine Protection

Proper water quality is essential for optimal espresso extraction and long-term machine health. Use the guidelines below to ensure your machine performs at its best.

Parameter Ideal Range Why It Matters
Total Hardness 50-170 ppm Prevents scale buildup while maintaining flavor
pH Level 6.5-7.5 Ensures balanced extraction and protects internal components
Chlorine 0 ppm Eliminates off-flavors and prevents corrosion
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) 70-150 ppm Optimal mineral content for extraction and taste
Total Alkalinity ~7.0 Stabilizes acidity and extraction
Chloride 0-28 ppm Prevents corrosion (especially in steel boilers)

Important Note

Always refer to your machine's manual for specific water quality recommendations and maintenance schedules.

Advisory

Install a water filtration system to maintain consistent water quality and extend the life of your espresso machine.

What This Means

  • Water that’s too hard → scale buildup, reduced performance
  • Water that’s too soft → flat, dull espresso
  • Improper water can damage internal components over time

Machine-Specific Considerations

  • These guidelines are safe for most home espresso machines
  • Some machines (especially with stainless steel boilers) require stricter limits on chlorides

Product FAQ

Does the La Pavoni Europiccola EPC-8SB use a pump, or is it a manual lever-only espresso machine?

The Europiccola EPC-8SB is a classic manual lever espresso machine and does not use any type of pump (no rotary or vibratory pump). Pressure is created entirely by the user pulling the lever, which forces water through the coffee puck.

Does this model have any kind of pre-infusion feature?

Yes. While there is no electronic pre-infusion, you can perform manual pre-infusion by lowering the lever slightly to allow water to saturate the coffee puck before applying full pressure. This manual control effectively functions as a pre-infusion step.

Is the Europiccola EPC-8SB a reservoir-only machine, or can it be direct plumbed to a water line?

The EPC-8SB is a reservoir-only machine and cannot be direct plumbed. It has an internal water tank that you fill manually. There is no connection for a water line or drain.

Does this machine have a cool‑touch or no‑burn steam wand?

No. The standard steam wand on the Europiccola EPC-8SB is not a cool-touch or no-burn design. It gets hot during use and should be handled with care. Users typically hold the plastic knob and avoid touching the metal wand directly when steaming.

What kind of power does it require, and can I use it on a standard US kitchen outlet?

The US version of the Europiccola EPC-8SB runs on 110–120V, 60 Hz power and is designed for standard US household outlets. Check the current draw on the rating plate (typically around 8–10 amps) to ensure you use a properly grounded 15-amp circuit.

Does the EPC-8SB include a pressure gauge, and what does it measure?

Yes. The EPC-8SB variant specifically includes a built-in pressure gauge on the boiler. It measures boiler pressure (steam and water pressure inside the boiler), which helps you know when the machine is up to operating temperature. It does not directly measure brew pressure at the group head.

What is the boiler material and capacity, and how many shots can I pull before refilling?

The Europiccola has a brass boiler with a chrome finish and a capacity of about 0.8 liters (27 oz). In practice, this allows roughly 4–8 espresso shots in a session, depending on shot volume, steaming use, and recovery time. You must turn the machine off and release pressure before opening the boiler cap to refill.

Is the group head and portafilter size standard, and can I use third‑party baskets and accessories?

The Europiccola uses a 51 mm portafilter, which is smaller than the more common 58 mm commercial size. Many third‑party tampers, baskets, and some accessories are available in 51 mm specifically for La Pavoni lever machines, but not every generic accessory will fit, so check compatibility before purchasing.

How does free installation work?

We want to make your purchase as smooth as possible and will pay the installation via rebate on commercial espresso machines. This includes commercial machines with more than 1 group head and 220V.

If the certified installer needed is over 1.5 hours away then we will pay for the installation call (and install up to the value suggested on page minus call fee). Travel will be paid by customer. Inquire if you have any questions about your location.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 30 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is your responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be your responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If your location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain your responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
