Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

Running a high-traffic satellite bar or a focused café menu requires equipment that doesn't need to be babied when a line starts to form. This is the machine for the operator who values a reputation for consistency over the unnecessary theater of manual temperature surfing. Volumetric dosing handles the precision of the pull so your staff can focus on the customer instead of the timer during a rush. It is the logical step for an operation that has outgrown the compromises of prosumer gear.

Product Features

Auto-Steam Wand

The Auto-Steam Wand replaces manual steam handles with an automatic cycle—place the wand in the pitcher and it textures the milk with no further input from the barista. This delivers repeatable milk texturing and speeds milk prep during peak service.

Volumetric Dosing

The Appia Life Volumetric lets you program desired shot volumes so every extraction is repeatable across a service. That consistency reduces per-shot monitoring and frees baristas to manage orders and speed during busy periods.

Smart Wand Option

The Appia Life is compatible with 1 Auto-Steam Wand on the 1 Group only; you must select 1 Group and the Smart Wand option to enable it. Calling out this limitation helps operators plan machine configuration for their throughput needs.

Designed For Volume

Built for medium–high volume locations, the Appia Life is described as offering high productivity and high performance for demanding professionals. Its workflow-focused design suits cafés that need consistent output under pressure.

Proven Reliability

The Appia Life builds on the proven Appia platform and emphasizes reliability alongside its modern styling. Reduced downtime and a familiar service profile mean fewer interruptions during commercial service.

Finish & Color Choices

The machine comes in black, white, or red at no extra charge. Custom color requests are available — contact Coffeeionado to arrange. Free color options make it straightforward to match front-of-house branding without added cost.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Small café operators who want auto-steam simplicity — The automatic milk frothing system and volumetric dosing deliver consistent output without requiring experienced barista training
  • New café operators building a first coffee station — The touchscreen interface and push-button operation reduce staff training time
  • Restaurant and hospitality coffee programs — The NSF-rated build and direct plumbing handle daily service with minimal operator oversight

Right For You If:

  • Your daily shot count is 100+ and you want auto-steam to simplify your milk drink workflow.
  • You have direct plumbing available and want a machine that stays on during service hours.
  • Your team needs a push-button operation that reduces training time.

Things to Consider:

  • Auto-steam simplifies milk texturing but gives you less manual control over microfoam quality compared to a skilled barista.
  • The 20–30 minute heat-up is reasonable for a commercial machine, but the unit should stay on during operating hours.
  • Requires direct plumbing — no reservoir option means plumbing and water filtration are part of the install.

Our Take:

The Appia Life 1 Group with Auto Steam is Nuova Simonelli's go-to machine for operators who want professional milk texturing consistency without a trained barista — auto-steam, volumetric dosing, and a touchscreen that makes operation almost foolproof. If you are running a small coffee program and want a machine that delivers great drinks with minimal training, this is the one that does the heavy lifting for you.

Auto Steam — Effortless Milk Frothing, Every Time

Take the guesswork out of milk texturing with the Nuova Simonelli Appia Life's Auto Steam wand. Available as an upgrade on the Volumetric model, this intelligent feature replaces the traditional manual steam handle with a single button — simply place the wand into your pitcher, press, and let the machine do the rest. The result is consistently velvety, perfectly textured microfoam on every pour, without the learning curve of manual steaming.

Designed with both performance and safety in mind, the cool-touch wand keeps your team protected during the busiest of rushes, while the automated process frees your baristas to focus on what matters most — crafting great drinks and engaging with customers. Whether you're running a high-volume café or a fast-paced hospitality environment, the Auto Steam feature delivers the speed, consistency, and ease of use that modern service demands.

Get the Perfect Extraction

The Soft Infusion System, developed by the techs at Simonelli, is an innovative pre-infusion system that is adjustable, consistent, and has no risk of user error. It is unique because it extracts centrifugally by injecting water at different angles into the coffee cake which eliminates channeling and maximizes espresso extraction by creating more contact time between the water and coffee.

Automatic Controls

The Appia Life is an automatic volumetric machine that allows you to just press a button and the machine will run a programmed dose. This is great for shops that are busy and don't have time to operate a semi-automatic machine (where you have to press a button to stop the shot). It also features an upgraded switchboard with touch control commands.

Boiler Gauge

The pressure gauge on espresso machines is vital for producing top-notch espresso. It shows the pressure used to extract the coffee, ensuring that water passes through the grounds in the portafilter at the right force. Keeping this pressure steady is key to making excellent espresso shots every time.

This fine Italian espresso machine would best fit small shops, catering services and mobile carts. It has made pulling shots as fast and simple as possible, allowing you to focus on your customers.

Energy Savings

The Appia Life delivers 20% less environmental impact and a 13% energy savings. It also features a thermally compensated soft-infusion design that delivers great-tasting espresso shot after shot.

Historical Brand

Nuova Simonelli has been building espresso machines since 1936. They build all their commercial machines with the key features expected from one of the most respected and renowned coffee machine manufacturers in the world. The Appia Life is a powerful machine that will operate smoothly with consistent customer flows.

Water Quality & Machine Protection

Proper water quality is essential for optimal espresso extraction and long-term machine health. Use the guidelines below to ensure your machine performs at its best.

Parameter Ideal Range Why It Matters
Total Hardness 50-170 ppm Prevents scale buildup while maintaining flavor
pH Level 6.5-7.5 Ensures balanced extraction and protects internal components
Chlorine 0 ppm Eliminates off-flavors and prevents corrosion
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) 70-150 ppm Optimal mineral content for extraction and taste
Total Alkalinity ~7.0 Stabilizes acidity and extraction
Chloride 0-28 ppm Prevents corrosion (especially in steel boilers)

Important Note

Always refer to your machine's manual for specific water quality recommendations and maintenance schedules.

Advisory

Install a water filtration system to maintain consistent water quality and extend the life of your espresso machine.

What This Means

  • Water that’s too hard → scale buildup, reduced performance
  • Water that’s too soft → flat, dull espresso
  • Improper water can damage internal components over time

Machine-Specific Considerations

  • Some machines (especially with stainless steel boilers) require stricter limits on chlorides

Product FAQ

Does the Nuova Simonelli Appia Life 1 Group require a direct water line connection or does it have a reservoir?

The Appia Life 1 Group with Auto Steam is a direct-plumb machine, meaning it requires a dedicated water line connection. This ensures a constant water supply for high-volume environments and eliminates the need to manually refill a tank.

Can this machine be plugged into a standard 110V US household or office outlet?

Yes, the 1 Group version of the Appia Life is specifically designed to operate on a standard 110V/120V power supply, making it an excellent choice for small cafes, mobile coffee carts, and offices without the need for 220V wiring.

How does the 'Auto Steam' feature work compared to a traditional manual steam wand?

The Auto Steam (or EasyCream) technology allows the barista to program the desired milk temperature and texture. With the press of a button, the machine automatically froths the milk and stops when it reaches the set parameters, ensuring consistency regardless of the operator's skill level.

Does the Appia Life include a pre-infusion system to improve espresso quality?

Yes, it features Nuova Simonelli’s patented SIS (Soft Infusion System). This system pre-wets the coffee puck at low pressure before the full 9 bars of pressure are applied, which helps prevent channeling and ensures a more even and flavorful extraction.

Is the steam wand on this machine 'cool-touch' or 'no-burn'?

Yes, the Appia Life comes standard with insulated 'cool-touch' steam wands. These wands remain cool to the touch during use to prevent accidental burns and make cleaning easier because milk is less likely to bake onto the surface.

What type of pump is inside the Appia Life 1 Group?

The machine is equipped with a high-performance internal rotary pump. Rotary pumps are preferred for commercial use because they are significantly quieter than vibratory pumps, more durable, and provide the stable, consistent pressure necessary for back-to-back shots.

Does the machine have an automated cleaning cycle for the group heads?

Yes, the Appia Life features an automated backwash program. This allows the barista to initiate a cleaning cycle with the press of a button, simplifying daily maintenance and ensuring the group head remains free of coffee oil buildup.

What are the dimensions and footprint of the 1 Group model?

The Appia Life 1 Group is designed for space-efficiency, measuring approximately 16 inches wide, 21 inches deep, and 20 inches tall. This compact footprint is ideal for businesses with limited counter space.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 30 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is your responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be your responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If your location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain your responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
