Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

You aren’t just buying a machine; you’re hiring the most dependable member of your staff. A two-group setup signals that your volume has outpaced entry-level gear and your baristas require a layout that respects their physical workflow. The Soft Infusion System handles the minor tamping inconsistencies that occur during a heavy rush, protecting the reputation of your roast even when the shop is full. It provides the stability required to treat a growing line as a metric of success rather than a source of anxiety.

Product Features

Four-Hole Steam Wands

The machine’s four hole steam wands make it easier to create stable microfoam, speeding milk texturing on a busy line. Faster, more consistent steam performance reduces drink turnaround time and helps maintain consistent milk quality across baristas.

Volumetric Control

Volumetric control stops automatically after brewing the programmed shot volume, removing guesswork during busy service. That automatic stop ensures repeatable dose and extraction timing so every shot matches the recipe under high throughput.

Soft Infusion System

The Soft Infusion System applies a gentle pressure ramp at the start of extraction to enhance aroma and flavor while reducing channeling. That controlled pre-infusion improves extraction consistency across differing puck conditions—critical for steady café output.

Energy Saving Design

Designed to cut operating costs, the Appia Life uses 13% less energy than the Appia II and claims 20% less environmental impact compared to Appia II. Lower energy draw matters over long service hours in multi-group installations.

Automated Cleaning Display

A user-friendly digital display streamlines automated cleaning routines so staff spend less time on maintenance and more time on service. Simplified cleaning reduces downtime and keeps groups operating reliably throughout the day.

Heat Exchanger Boiler

An 11 L heat exchange boiler provides continuous simultaneous brewing and steaming capacity across both groups. That thermal reserve supports sustained milk steaming and back-to-back extractions without temperature drop during peak service periods.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Growing cafés stepping up from single-group equipment — Two-group volumetric capacity handles your increased demand without requiring advanced barista training from day one
  • Restaurant and hospitality coffee programs — Programmable dosing and the Soft Infusion System deliver consistent drinks even when your staff isn't made up of full-time baristas
  • Café operators pulling 100-200 shots daily — The 11L boiler and volumetric controls maintain throughput and consistency through steady daily service

Right For You If:

  • You're transitioning from a single-group machine and need two-group capacity with programmable consistency to handle growing volume.
  • Your staff includes part-time or rotating baristas and you need volumetric dosing to maintain drink quality across different skill levels.
  • Your daily shot count is 100-200 and you want a machine that handles steady service without constant temperature monitoring.

Things to Consider:

  • The 20-30 minute warm-up time means your machine needs to be on before your baristas arrive — a timer switch makes this automatic.
  • The SIS pre-infusion is fixed, not programmable — you get consistent pre-infusion but can't adjust it for different roast profiles.
  • The 58mm portafilter is standard commercial size — baskets and accessories are widely available and interchangeable with most commercial equipment.

Our Take:

The Appia Life Volumetric is the reliable middle ground in Nuova Simonelli's commercial range — it gives your baristas programmable consistency without the learning curve of more complex machines. If you're building a growing café program and want a machine that scales with your staff's skills, this is a solid foundation.

Automatic Controls

The Appia Life is an automatic volumetric machine that allows you to just press a button and the machine will run a programmed dose. This is great for shops that are busy and don't have time to operate a semi-automatic machine (where you have to press a button to stop the shot). It also features an upgraded switchboard with touch control commands.

Made For Medium to High Volume Shops

Staff with less experience or multi-functional baristas (i.e. not always at the machine). Suitable for restaurants, hotels, coffee shops, and offices.

Estimated Output:

This espresso maker is rated to do up to 250+ cappuccinos on a daily basis without any issues.

Standard Features

All Appia Life models retain standard features like soft infusion, powerful steam with push-pull controls, cool-touch wands with steam tips ideal for micro-foaming, automatic back-flushing, and much more.

Get the Perfect Extraction

The Soft Infusion System, developed by the techs at Simonelli, is an innovative pre-infusion system that is adjustable, consistent, and has no risk of user error. It is unique because it extracts centrifugally by injecting water at different angles into the coffee cake which eliminates channeling and maximizes espresso extraction by creating more contact time between the water and coffee.

Energy Savings

The Appia Life delivers 20% less environmental impact and a 13% energy savings. It also features a thermally compensated soft-infusion design that delivers great-tasting espresso shot after shot.

Historical Brand

Nuova Simonelli has been building espresso machines since 1936. They build all their commercial machines with the key features expected from one of the most respected and renowned coffee machine manufacturers in the world. The Appia Life is a powerful machine that will operate smoothly with consistent customer flows.

1. How many drinks per day can the Appia Life 2 Group handle?

The Appia Life 2 Group is built for medium-to-high volume environments and can comfortably produce 150–300 drinks per day without performance loss.

2. Does this machine require direct plumbing?

Yes. The Appia Life 2 Group is a direct-connect (plumbed-in) machine and needs access to a water line and proper drainage. If you’re unsure about setup requirements, our team can help you or your installer prepare.

3. Is professional installation required?

For best performance and warranty protection, yes. Coffeeionado includes FREE professional installation with your purchase to ensure proper setup for water, power, and calibration.

4. What kind of power does it need?

The machine typically requires 208–240V, 20A or 30A, depending on the configuration. If you’re not sure what you have, we can help you verify your electrical setup.

A commercial water filtration and softening system is highly recommended to prevent scale buildup and extend the life of the machine. We can recommend the right filtration system based on your location.

6. What’s the difference between the Appia Life and the Aurelia?

The Appia Life uses similar performance technology as the Aurelia but is more compact, energy-efficient, and budget-friendly. It’s ideal for cafés, bakeries, restaurants, offices, and mobile setups.

Water Quality & Machine Protection

Proper water quality is essential for optimal espresso extraction and long-term machine health. Use the guidelines below to ensure your machine performs at its best.

Parameter Ideal Range Why It Matters
Total Hardness 50-170 ppm Prevents scale buildup while maintaining flavor
pH Level 6.5-7.5 Ensures balanced extraction and protects internal components
Chlorine 0 ppm Eliminates off-flavors and prevents corrosion
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) 70-150 ppm Optimal mineral content for extraction and taste
Total Alkalinity ~7.0 Stabilizes acidity and extraction
Chloride 0-28 ppm Prevents corrosion (especially in steel boilers)

Important Note

Always refer to your machine's manual for specific water quality recommendations and maintenance schedules.

Advisory

Install a water filtration system to maintain consistent water quality and extend the life of your espresso machine.

What This Means

  • Water that’s too hard → scale buildup, reduced performance
  • Water that’s too soft → flat, dull espresso
  • Improper water can damage internal components over time

Machine-Specific Considerations

  • These guidelines are safe for most home espresso machines
  • Some machines (especially with stainless steel boilers) require stricter limits on chlorides

Product FAQ

Does the Nuova Simonelli Appia Life 2 Group Volumetric use a rotary pump or a vibratory pump?

The Appia Life 2 Group Volumetric uses a commercial‑grade rotary pump. Rotary pumps are quieter, more durable for high‑volume service, and are designed for direct plumbing into a water line.

Is the Appia Life 2 Group Volumetric a direct‑plumb only machine, or can it use a water tank/reservoir?

The Appia Life 2 Group Volumetric is designed to be hard‑plumbed directly to a water line. It does not include an internal water reservoir. Professional installation with proper water filtration and pressure regulation is strongly recommended.

Does this machine have programmable volumetric dosing, or do I need to stop the shot manually?

This model is a volumetric machine, meaning each group head has programmable buttons for shot volumes (e.g., single, double). Once programmed, the machine automatically stops the extraction at the set volume, though a manual continuous button is also available for baristas who prefer full manual control.

Does the Appia Life 2 Group Volumetric offer pre‑infusion, and is it adjustable?

Yes. The Appia Life line includes a soft pre‑infusion feature that gently wets the coffee puck before full pressure is applied. This helps improve extraction consistency, especially with slightly uneven tamping. The pre‑infusion profile itself is not user‑programmable in the same way as on high‑end pressure‑profiling machines, but it is built into the brew cycle.

Are the steam wands cool‑touch or no‑burn, and how many steam wands does the machine have?

The Appia Life 2 Group Volumetric is available in configurations with cool‑touch (no‑burn) steam wands, though availability can vary by seller and specific sub‑model. Standard versions come with two traditional stainless steel commercial steam wands that still get hot during use. If cool‑touch is important, verify with your supplier that you are ordering the ‘XT’ or cool‑touch‑equipped configuration.

What type and size of boiler does the Appia Life 2 Group Volumetric use, and is it heat‑exchange or dual‑boiler?

The Appia Life 2 Group Volumetric uses a single large copper heat‑exchange boiler shared by both groups and the steam system. In most US configurations, the 2‑group model has an approximately 11–12 liter boiler. The heat‑exchange design allows you to brew espresso and steam milk at the same time without waiting for temperature recovery.

What power requirements and electrical specifications does this machine need in the US?

Typical US versions of the Appia Life 2 Group Volumetric require a 220–240V, 50/60 Hz dedicated circuit, with power draw commonly in the 3000–3500W range. A NEMA plug type and exact amperage (often 20A) can vary by configuration, so it’s important to check the nameplate or spec sheet and have a licensed electrician provide a dedicated circuit that meets local code.

Does the Appia Life 2 Group Volumetric include an internal water filter or softener, or do I need external filtration?

The machine does not include a built‑in water filtration system. Nuova Simonelli strongly recommends using an external filter and/or softener on the incoming water line to protect the boiler and internal components from scale and to maintain beverage quality. Using untreated hard water can void parts of the warranty in many cases.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 30 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is your responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be your responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If your location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain your responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
