Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

Your regulars might not track the nuances of extraction pressure, but they will notice the day your equipment fails to keep up with the morning line. The Aurelia Wave 2 Group EE is built for the shop owner who trusts their staff more than a pre-set timer, utilizing a manual-first interface that demands professional intent behind every shot. It quietly manages the technical risks of mineral buildup and thermal drift so your baristas can focus on the customer standing in front of them. This is the foundation of a high-volume program that values reliability over flashy distractions.

Product Features

Aurelia Wave Smart Water Technology

Optional Aurelia Wave Smart Water Technology detects basic water parameters and warns the operator when quality changes, giving an early alert before water-related issues arise. Because water is the largest component of espresso, this feature helps protect shot consistency and reduce long-term equipment costs.

Semiautomatic Extraction Control

The Wave Semi is a true semiautomatic: the barista must both start and stop each shot, putting extraction timing fully under operator control. That manual workflow lets skilled users fine-tune shots by feel and pressure rather than relying on preset volumes.

Manual-First Interface

As the Aurelia Wave semiautomatic — the basic Aurelia model — this unit may lack volumetric dosing and an LCD display, favoring hands-on operation instead. That pared-back approach appeals to operators who prefer to dial shots in real time and keep the interface straightforward and serviceable.

Engineered Performance & Reliability

The Aurelia Wave is described as delivering performance and reliability aimed at demanding users, giving confidence for regular, high-quality service. Its design focus supports consistent extractions during sustained use in craft-focused environments.

Energy & Environmental Focus

Wave places deliberate emphasis on Energy Consumption and Environmental impact in its design, helping minimize operating waste and running costs over time. For prosumers this means an investment that considers both efficiency and longevity.

Pro-Level Application

This model is positioned for high-quality coffee shops, medium–high volume locations, demanding professionals, barista competitors, and specialty coffee shops. If you’re investing for serious craft and service, the Aurelia Wave is built to meet those expectations.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Café operators who want barista control with commercial reliability — Electronic groups with programmable volumetric dosing give your staff control over extraction while maintaining consistency across shifts
  • Specialty coffee programs pulling 150-350 shots daily — Robust boiler capacity and advanced temperature control handle sustained service without thermal drift
  • Operators building a skilled barista team — The manual-first interface with programmable backup rewards technique while providing a safety net for newer staff

Right For You If:

  • Your baristas are skilled enough to control extraction manually but you want programmable volumetrics as a consistency backstop during busy periods.
  • Your daily volume is 150-350 shots and you need a machine that handles sustained service without your staff managing temperature or recovery.
  • Your program values the craft of espresso-making and you want a machine that reflects that without sacrificing commercial-grade reliability.

Things to Consider:

  • No automatic dosing means your baristas need solid technique — every shot quality depends on their skill and attention, especially during rushes.
  • Smart Water Technology requires proper water filtration to deliver its full benefit — budget for a filtration system alongside the machine.
  • The LCD display provides essential information without overwhelming complexity — your baristas will appreciate the straightforward interface.

Our Take:

The Aurelia Wave EE is for operators who want their baristas pulling shots with intent, not just pushing buttons — it's the manual-first machine in Nuova Simonelli's high-volume lineup. If your team has the skills and you want a machine that respects their craft while managing the technical headaches, this is the one to bet on.

This category of machines is widely favored in various professional environments for delivering reliable outcomes while also permitting a degree of personalization. Notable features of semi-automatic machines include user-managed water flow, steady pressure, and flexibility for customization.

Pre-Infusion SIS Technology

The Soft Infusion System, developed by the techs at Simonelli, is an innovative pre-infusion system that is adjustable, consistent and has no risk of user error. It is unique because it extracts centrifugally by injecting water at different angles into the coffee cake which eliminates channeling and maximizes espresso extraction by creating more contact time between the water and coffee.

Raised Group Heads

If you provide a various range of cup sizes, the elevated group heads on espresso machines prove to be extremely beneficial. They eliminate the need for baristas to brew into shot glasses and then transfer the espresso into larger cups, allowing them to brew directly into taller cups and maintain an efficient workflow.

Heat Exchanger 14 Liter Boiler

This 14-liter commercial espresso machine with a heat exchange boiler is a high-powered and efficient coffee-making tool specifically designed for professional use in cafes, restaurants, and other commercial environments. Here are the key features:

  • Fast Recover: With such a large boiler, this machine will be able to take care of any rush and offer exceptional quality shot after shot with minimum recovery time.
  • Boiler Capacity: The 14-liter boiler offers plenty of space for making multiple espresso shots and steaming milk at the same time. Heat exchange machines utilize a single boiler to handle both brewing and steaming tasks.
  • Heat Exchange: In contrast to dual boiler machines that have separate boilers for brewing and steaming, heat exchange machines employ a single boiler with a heat exchange tube. This tube allows hot water from the boiler to heat the brewing water as it flows through, ensuring consistent brewing temperature.
  • Simultaneous Brewing and Steaming: Thanks to the heat exchange system, baristas can brew espresso shots while simultaneously frothing milk for lattes or cappuccinos. This simultaneous operation is essential during peak hours in a commercial setting.
  • Temperature Control: Heat exchange machines maintain steady water temperature for brewing purposes. The boiler remains at steaming temperature, while the heat exchange tube ensures that the brewing water is heated as needed.

Boiler Gauge

The pressure gauge on espresso machines is vital for producing top-notch espresso. It shows the pressure used to extract the coffee, ensuring that water passes through the grounds in the portafilter at the right force. Keeping this pressure steady is key to making excellent espresso shots every time.

Medium Volume Cafe

This handcrafted Italian espresso machine would be perfect in medium-volume cafes. It has made pulling shots as fast and simple as possible, allowing you to focus on your customers.

Suitable for: High-quality coffee shops, medium - high volume locations, demanding professionals, barista competitors, specialty coffee shops.

Water Quality & Machine Protection

Proper water quality is essential for optimal espresso extraction and long-term machine health. Use the guidelines below to ensure your machine performs at its best.

Parameter Ideal Range Why It Matters
Total Hardness 50-170 ppm Prevents scale buildup while maintaining flavor
pH Level 6.5-7.5 Ensures balanced extraction and protects internal components
Chlorine 0 ppm Eliminates off-flavors and prevents corrosion
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) 70-150 ppm Optimal mineral content for extraction and taste
Total Alkalinity ~7.0 Stabilizes acidity and extraction
Chloride 0-28 ppm Prevents corrosion (especially in steel boilers)

Important Note

Always refer to your machine's manual for specific water quality recommendations and maintenance schedules.

Advisory

Install a water filtration system to maintain consistent water quality and extend the life of your espresso machine.

What This Means

  • Water that’s too hard → scale buildup, reduced performance
  • Water that’s too soft → flat, dull espresso
  • Improper water can damage internal components over time

Machine-Specific Considerations

  • These guidelines are safe for most home espresso machines
  • Some machines (especially with stainless steel boilers) require stricter limits on chlorides

Product FAQ

Does the Nuova Simonelli Aurelia Wave 2 Group EE have a rotary pump, and how loud is it during operation?

Yes. The Aurelia Wave 2 Group EE uses a commercial-grade rotary pump, which is designed for continuous use in busy cafés. Rotary pumps are noticeably quieter than vibration pumps, so noise is generally low and suitable for front‑of‑house installation.

Is the Aurelia Wave 2 Group EE a direct‑plumbed machine, or can it use a water reservoir?

The Aurelia Wave 2 Group EE is intended to be hard‑plumbed directly into your water line and does not use an internal pour‑over reservoir. Proper water filtration and pressure regulation are recommended as part of the installation.

Does this machine offer pre‑infusion, and can it be adjusted?

Yes. The Aurelia Wave 2 Group EE offers a pre‑infusion stage that gently wets the coffee bed before full pressure is applied, improving shot consistency and flavor. On the EE version, pre‑infusion is typically factory‑set and not user‑programmable in the same way as the volumetric (S) or T (temperature‑profiling) variants, but the effect is built into the extraction cycle.

Are the steam wands cool‑touch or no‑burn on the Aurelia Wave 2 Group EE?

Yes. The Aurelia Wave line features cool‑touch (no‑burn) steam wands. They remain significantly cooler to the touch than traditional wands, reduce the risk of burns, and greatly minimize milk sticking to the wand, making cleanup easier.

What type and size of boiler does the 2‑group Aurelia Wave EE have, and is it heat‑exchange or dual‑boiler?

The 2‑group Aurelia Wave EE uses a large single heat‑exchange boiler (typically around 14–15 liters) designed for high‑volume commercial use. It is a heat‑exchange system, meaning each group has its own heat‑exchange circuit inside the main steam boiler to deliver brew water at stable temperatures while also providing abundant steam capacity.

What are the power requirements for the Nuova Simonelli Aurelia Wave 2 Group EE in the US?

US‑spec Aurelia Wave 2 Group EE machines are generally configured for 220–240V, 50/60 Hz, and require a dedicated circuit (commonly 20–30 amps, depending on exact configuration). Always check the rating plate on the specific unit and consult a licensed electrician to ensure correct wiring and breaker size.

Does the Aurelia Wave 2 Group EE have automatic shot dosing, or is it strictly manual?

The EE version (“Ericcettore Elettronico” or semi‑automatic) uses manual start/stop rocker switches for extraction rather than programmable volumetric dosing. The barista controls shot length by turning the brew on and off. If you want programmable volumetric dosing, you would typically look at the Aurelia Wave Volumetric (S) model instead.

What kind of water filtration or treatment is recommended to protect the boiler and maintain warranty coverage?

A plumbed‑in commercial filtration system is strongly recommended, typically including sediment filtration and either a softener or a scale‑control cartridge sized to your water hardness and usage. Many installers in the US use systems from brands like Everpure or BWT. Using untreated hard water can lead to scale buildup, performance issues, and may void parts of the manufacturer’s warranty.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 30 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is your responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be your responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If your location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain your responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
