Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

A three-group machine signals to every customer who walks through the door that you prioritize the craft of the pull over the convenience of a preset. Choosing the semiautomatic version acknowledges that your baristas are professionals who prefer to time their own extractions rather than letting a circuit board decide when a shot is finished. While the Aurelia Wave Smart Water technology quietly manages the mineral fluctuations that threaten your boilers, your team is free to focus on the ergonomics of a rush that never seems to end. Your equipment should be the foundation of your reputation, not the bottleneck that limits it.

Product Features

Aurelia Wave Smart Water Technology

Optional Aurelia Wave Smart Water Technology detects basic water parameters and warns the operator when quality changes. Because water makes up the majority of espresso, this safeguard helps protect shot consistency and reduces long-term equipment issues and costs.

Semiautomatic Extraction Control

The Aurelia Wave (Wave Semi) is a semiautomatic machine, meaning the barista both starts and stops each extraction. That manual control is ideal for trained staff in busy venues who need repeatable timing and on-the-fly adjustment during peak service.

Three-Group High-Volume Capacity

Three independent groups let multiple baristas pull simultaneously, sustaining throughput during the highest-demand service periods. The 3-group Aurelia Wave Semi-Automatic is specified for high-volume coffee shops and specialty venues where the barista's manual control over each extraction is the priority.

Built for High-Volume Service

The Aurelia Wave is specified as suitable for high quality coffee shops, medium-high volume locations, demanding professionals, barista competitors and specialty shops. Its positioning emphasizes performance and reliability for commercial environments that require steady output under pressure.

Ergonomics and Energy Focus

The Wave series stresses ergonomics and Energy Consumption/Environmental impact as core design priorities. Those details reduce operator fatigue during long shifts and help lower running costs across a busy service day.

Manual Dial-In Without Volumetrics

The Wave Semi is intentionally built without volumetric dosing or an LCD display, placing shot control squarely in the barista's hands. For cafés that prioritize technique and competition-level consistency, this encourages precise manual dialing and craft control over every extraction.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Specialty cafés that value barista control — Semi-automatic extraction gives experienced baristas direct control over shot timing without volumetric automation
  • High-volume operations with skilled staff — 400–800 shots daily with 13L boiler capacity and rotary pump handle peak service while manual dosing lets baristas adjust on the fly
  • Coffee programs focused on craft and technique — Manual dial-in without volumetrics means the barista decides when every shot starts and stops — full control, full responsibility

Right For You If:

  • Your daily shot count is 300–800 and your baristas prefer manual shot control over volumetric programming — they want to watch the flow and cut the shot themselves.
  • Your team has solid extraction technique and is comfortable managing dosing consistency without automated volumetric assistance.
  • You have direct plumbing and 220V power (NEMA L6-30), plus a barista team that values craft and is willing to take responsibility for every shot.

Things to Consider:

  • Semi-automatic operation means every shot depends on the barista — consistency comes from training and discipline, not from the machine automating the dose. This is a feature for skilled teams and a risk for untrained ones.
  • Without volumetric dosing, you lose the ability to program and repeat shots automatically — if your operation relies on speed and consistency across rotating staff, the volumetric variant is the safer choice.
  • The 13L copper boiler is large and capable but requires proper water chemistry to maintain — invest in quality filtration and stick to a descaling schedule.

Our Take:

The Aurelia Wave Semi-Auto is for cafés that trust their baristas — no volumetric safety net, no automation, just Nuova Simonelli's excellent boiler and group engineering paired with full manual control. If your team has the skill and the philosophy to back it up, this machine lets them do their best work without anything getting in the way.

Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine

Semi-automatic espresso machines strike a harmonious blend between manual operation and automation. While the barista controls the initiation and stoppage of water flow, the machine takes charge of maintaining optimal pressure. This category of machines is widely favored in various professional environments for delivering reliable outcomes while also permitting a degree of personalization. Notable features of semi-automatic machines include: user-managed water flow, steady pressure, and flexibility for customization.

Pre-Infusion SIS Technology

The Soft Infusion System, developed by the techs at Simonelli, is an innovative pre-infusion system that is adjustable, consistent and has no risk of user error. It is unique because it extracts centrifugally by injecting water at different angles into the coffee cake which eliminates channeling and maximizes espresso extraction by creating more contact time between the water and coffee.

Cool Touch No-Burn Steam Wands

With these revolutionary features, you can froth and steam milk without any concerns about getting burned. The cool touch technology ensures that the wand remains at a safe temperature, allowing you to focus on creating the perfect espresso drinks without any worries. Say goodbye to accidental burns and hello to a more enjoyable coffee-making process with our state-of-the-art espresso machine.

Experience the ultimate energy efficiency with this espresso machine's ECO function, designed to optimize energy usage based on real-time operation. By activating the ECO function during periods of inactivity, you can achieve up to 20% energy savings without compromising on performance. Say goodbye to unnecessary energy consumption and hello to a more sustainable and cost-effective coffee experience. Try the ECO function today and take the first step towards a greener future!

Heritage in Performance

Nuova Simonelli builds all their commercial machines with the key features expected from one of the most respected and renowned coffee machine manufacturers in the world. The Aurelia Wave is a powerful machine that will reliably operate with consistent customer flows.

Raised Group Heads

If you provide a various range of cup sizes, the elevated group heads on espresso machines prove to be extremely beneficial. They eliminate the need for baristas to brew into shot glasses and then transfer the espresso into larger cups, allowing them to brew directly into taller cups and maintain an efficient workflow.

Heat Exchanger 14 Liter Boiler

This 14-liter commercial espresso machine with a heat exchange boiler is a high-powered and efficient coffee-making tool specifically designed for professional use in cafes, restaurants, and other commercial environments. Here are the key features:

  • Fast Recover: With such a large boiler, this machine will be able to take care of any rush and offer exceptional quality shot after shot with minimum recovery time.
  • Boiler Capacity: The 14-liter boiler offers plenty of space for making multiple espresso shots and steaming milk at the same time. Heat exchange machines utilize a single boiler to handle both brewing and steaming tasks.
  • Heat Exchange: In contrast to dual boiler machines that have separate boilers for brewing and steaming, heat exchange machines employ a single boiler with a heat exchange tube. This tube allows hot water from the boiler to heat the brewing water as it flows through, ensuring consistent brewing temperature.
  • Simultaneous Brewing and Steaming: Thanks to the heat exchange system, baristas can brew espresso shots while simultaneously frothing milk for lattes or cappuccinos. This simultaneous operation is essential during peak hours in a commercial setting.
  • Temperature Control: Heat exchange machines maintain steady water temperature for brewing purposes. The boiler remains at steaming temperature, while the heat exchange tube ensures that the brewing water is heated as needed.

Boiler Gauge

The pressure gauge on espresso machines is vital for producing top-notch espresso. It shows the pressure used to extract the coffee, ensuring that water passes through the grounds in the portafilter at the right force. Keeping this pressure steady is key to making excellent espresso shots every time.

Medium Volume Cafe

This handcrafted Italian espresso machine would be perfect in medium-volume cafes. It has made pulling shots as fast and simple as possible, allowing you to focus on your customers.

Suitable for: High quality coffee shops, medium - high volume locations, demanding professionals, barista competitors, specialty coffee shops.

Water Quality & Machine Protection

Proper water quality is essential for optimal espresso extraction and long-term machine health. Use the guidelines below to ensure your machine performs at its best.

Parameter Ideal Range Why It Matters
Total Hardness 50-170 ppm Prevents scale buildup while maintaining flavor
pH Level 6.5-7.5 Ensures balanced extraction and protects internal components
Chlorine 0 ppm Eliminates off-flavors and prevents corrosion
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) 70-150 ppm Optimal mineral content for extraction and taste
Total Alkalinity ~7.0 Stabilizes acidity and extraction
Chloride 0-28 ppm Prevents corrosion (especially in steel boilers)

Important Note

Always refer to your machine's manual for specific water quality recommendations and maintenance schedules.

Advisory

Install a water filtration system to maintain consistent water quality and extend the life of your espresso machine.

What This Means

  • Water that’s too hard → scale buildup, reduced performance
  • Water that’s too soft → flat, dull espresso
  • Improper water can damage internal components over time

Machine-Specific Considerations

  • Some machines (especially with stainless steel boilers) require stricter limits on chlorides

Product FAQ

Does the Nuova Simonelli Aurelia Wave 3 Group Semi-Auto have a rotary pump and what is the recommended operating pressure?

Yes. The Aurelia Wave uses a commercial-grade rotary pump designed for continuous, high-volume use. It is typically factory-set to run at approximately 9 bars of brew pressure, and can be adjusted by a qualified technician within the manufacturer’s recommended range to match your water line and coffee setup.

Is the Aurelia Wave 3 Group Semi-Auto a direct-plumbed machine, or can it use a water tank?

The Aurelia Wave 3 Group Semi-Auto is a direct-plumbed commercial espresso machine. It is designed to be connected directly to your building’s water line and requires proper water filtration. It does not include or support an internal pour-over water reservoir for standalone/tank use.

Does the Aurelia Wave 3 Group Semi-Auto have pre-infusion or soft-infusion, and is it adjustable?

Yes. The Aurelia Wave features a pre-infusion (often referred to as soft-infusion) system that gradually introduces water to the coffee puck for a more even extraction. On the semi-automatic version, the pre-infusion is typically built into the group design and pressure ramp-up; the exact timing and pressure profile may be configurable by a technician via internal settings, depending on the specific model/firmware.

Does this machine include cool-touch or no-burn steam wands, and how many steam wands are there?

The Aurelia Wave 3 Group Semi-Auto generally ships with insulated, cool-touch (no-burn) steam wands to reduce the risk of burns and make cleaning easier. Most 3-group configurations include two steam wands plus a separate hot water outlet. Final configuration can vary by distributor, so verify wand type and count when ordering.

What is the boiler setup (size and type) on the Aurelia Wave 3 Group Semi-Auto, and is it suitable for high-volume cafes?

The Aurelia Wave is a multi-boiler or heat-exchanger style commercial machine (depending on the exact sub-model) with a large primary steam boiler sized for high throughput—typically in the 14–17 liter range for a 3-group configuration. This capacity, combined with its powerful heating elements, is designed specifically for high-volume environments like busy cafes, restaurants, and coffee bars.

What are the electrical requirements for the 3 Group Semi-Auto in the US, and does it need a dedicated circuit?

In the US, the Aurelia Wave 3 Group Semi-Auto usually requires a 220–240V, 50/60 Hz power supply and draws a significant number of amps due to its commercial heating elements. A dedicated, appropriately rated circuit with the correct breaker (often 30–40A, depending on configuration) is strongly recommended and should be installed by a licensed electrician. Always check the machine’s data plate and local code requirements before installation.

What kind of water filtration or treatment is recommended for the Aurelia Wave, and will using hard water void the warranty?

Nuova Simonelli recommends using properly filtered and conditioned water within specific hardness and TDS ranges to prevent scale buildup and corrosion. In most cases, a commercial-grade filtration and softening system plumbed in-line is required. Using untreated hard water or water outside the manufacturer’s specifications can lead to scale damage and may void portions of the warranty related to the boiler and internal components.

Does the Aurelia Wave 3 Group Semi-Auto have built-in shot timers or barista-assist features?

Depending on the configuration, the Aurelia Wave line can include built-in group-head shot timers, backlit work areas, and optional smart features like volumetric tracking or brew parameters displayed on a digital interface. On the Semi-Auto version, extraction is started and stopped manually by the barista, but many models still include group timers and diagnostic info to assist with consistency. Check the specific SKU or options list to confirm included features.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 30 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is your responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be your responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If your location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain your responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
