Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

You have reached the point where the limitations of a single-boiler machine are no longer a technical curiosity but a genuine bottleneck in your morning workflow. This is for the kitchen counter that functions more like a workstation, where the ability to pull a shot and steam milk simultaneously via heat-exchanger brewing isn't a luxury—it's the baseline for predictable results. It occupies a footprint that respects your cabinet clearance while providing the thermal stability usually reserved for machines three times its size. It is a tool for those who stopped chasing trends and started focusing on the variables that actually change the liquid in the cup.

Product Features

Heat-Exchanger Brewing & Steaming

The Oscar's heat-exchanger design lets you brew and steam milk at the same time and the machine recovers temperature quickly after multiple drinks.

E61 Group with Automatic Pre infusion

A commercial E61 group with Automatic Pre infusion gives you gentler, more even extraction during the pour—helpful when dialing in shots at home. That built-in preinfusion lets you coax sweetness and clarity from your grind without extra fiddling.

Bottom-Fed BPA-Free 3 L Reservoir

The bottom fed BPA free 3 L reservoir fills easily without silicone tubes, which the manufacturer notes reduces cavitation and makes refilling simpler. A refill water alarm also alerts you when the tank runs low so you don't get mid-pull dry runs.

52-Watt ulka Pump + Klixon Protection

A brass-ended 52-watt ulka pump provides more durable, quieter operation than plastic-ended alternatives and—when paired with the pulsar—helps reduce pressure fluctuations during extraction. The pump is further protected by a Klixon thermal fuse that will shut it off if it overheats.

Easy-Access Vacuum Breaker Valve

An easy access vacuum breaker valve lets you adjust brew pressure and prevents vapor lock problems that can occur if the machine is placed on a timer. That makes maintenance and occasional downtime far less stressful for a home setup.

Compact Countertop Fit

Sized for kitchen counters, the Oscar is just 16 in. tall, 11.5 in. wide and weighs 46 lbs, so it fits under most upper cabinets and can be repositioned without heavy lifting. You still get 4in. of cup clearance under the E61 group for standard mugs and cups.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Home baristas upgrading from single-boiler machines — The thermocompensated group head and HX boiler deliver simultaneous brew and steam without the complexity of a dual-boiler
  • Enthusiasts pulling daily milk drinks — The compact footprint and 15–30 minute heat-up make this practical for a morning routine
  • Small households making 30–40 drinks daily — Enough steam power for lattes and cappuccinos without the recovery delays of a single-boiler

Right For You If:

  • Your daily drink count is 30–40 and you want simultaneous brew and steam on a standard 110-120V circuit.
  • Your counter space is limited and you need a compact machine that does not sacrifice steam performance.
  • You are pairing this with a quality grinder and want consistent extraction without managing temperature surfing.

Things to Consider:

  • The 15–30 minute warm-up is faster than many E61 machines, but the thermocompensated group is less precise than a PID-controlled system.
  • Occasional low-volume bursts are fine, but sustained rush periods will require recovery time.
  • The vibration pump is audible — factor in noise if your setup is near shared living spaces.

Our Take:

The Oscar II Pour Over is Nuova Simonelli is answer for home baristas who want commercial-style extraction without the plumbing commitment — a thermocompensated group head and HX boiler in a compact, reservoir-fed body. If you are stepping up from a single-boiler and want a machine that handles milk drinks without the wait, this is a solid, proven choice.

Oscar II Pour Over Automatic Espresso Machine by Nuova Simonelli

The Oscar II by Nuova Simonelli has been praised for its multi-functionality and reliability. This sleek Italian home espresso machine features a sizeable 2 liter boiler, 3 liter reservoir, programmable timed brewing and is even NSF rated. It is a professional cafe experience made for your kitchen.

Professional Characteristics

Oscar II is a high performance machine due to professional components like the filter holder, the temperature compensated group and the high productivity steam wand. Added to this are technical and ergonomic features to simplify its use, as with the push and pull steam lever and the soft-touch backlit control panel.

Programmable Dosing

With the programmable timed dosing you are able to program single and double doses to have your brews ready at the press of a button. This allows you to keep your extraction consistent with the ease of a button. Manual extractions are also available.

Get the Perfect Extraction

The Soft Infusion System, developed by the techs at Simonelli, is an innovative pre-infusion system that is adjustable, consistent and has no risk of user error. It is unique because it extracts centrifugally by injecting water at different angles into the coffee cake which eliminates channeling and maximizes espresso extraction by creating more contact time between the water and coffee.

Thermostability

Fitted with a commercial grade grouphead the brew temperature stability is aided by the E61 style group head which is heated by a thermosyphon system and also by the copper boiler and water lines. Copper is known for heat retentive qualities, which is why Simonelli included them in their machines.

Minimal Design

Among the new features of Oscar II is to the extensive use of stainless steel that immediately shows strength and solidity, as well as enhancing the machine. Minimal design ensures the machine fits in different types of environment.

Water Quality & Machine Protection

Proper water quality is essential for optimal espresso extraction and long-term machine health. Use the guidelines below to ensure your machine performs at its best.

Parameter Ideal Range Why It Matters
Total Hardness 50-170 ppm Prevents scale buildup while maintaining flavor
pH Level 6.5-7.5 Ensures balanced extraction and protects internal components
Chlorine 0 ppm Eliminates off-flavors and prevents corrosion
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) 70-150 ppm Optimal mineral content for extraction and taste
Total Alkalinity ~7.0 Stabilizes acidity and extraction
Chloride 0-28 ppm Prevents corrosion (especially in steel boilers)

Important Note

Always refer to your machine's manual for specific water quality recommendations and maintenance schedules.

Advisory

Install a water filtration system to maintain consistent water quality and extend the life of your espresso machine.

What This Means

  • Water that’s too hard → scale buildup, reduced performance
  • Water that’s too soft → flat, dull espresso
  • Improper water can damage internal components over time

Machine-Specific Considerations

  • Some machines (especially with stainless steel boilers) require stricter limits on chlorides

Product FAQ

Does the Nuova Simonelli Oscar II have a rotary pump or a vibratory pump?

The Nuova Simonelli Oscar II uses a vibratory pump, not a rotary pump. This helps keep the machine more compact and affordable, while still delivering sufficient pressure for espresso extraction.

Does the Oscar II offer pre-infusion, and is it programmable?

Yes. The Oscar II provides a form of pre-infusion by using the heat-exchanger and pump to gently saturate the coffee puck before full pressure is applied. However, it is not a fully programmable, customizable pre-infusion like on higher-end prosumer machines; the pre-infusion is more or less built into the machine’s standard brewing operation.

Is the steam wand on the Oscar II cool-touch or no-burn?

The Oscar II comes with a professional-style stainless steel steam wand. It is designed to reduce the risk of burns compared with older bare-metal wands but is not a fully insulated ‘cool-touch’ wand. The wand can still get hot during use and should be handled carefully.

Can the Nuova Simonelli Oscar II be direct plumbed, or is it only pour-over?

The Oscar II model you’re asking about is the pour-over version and uses an internal water reservoir; it is not designed to be direct plumbed to a water line out of the box. Some users add aftermarket kits, but those modifications are not factory supported and may affect your warranty.

What size portafilter does the Oscar II use, and is it compatible with standard 58 mm accessories?

The Oscar II uses a commercial-style 58 mm portafilter. This means it is compatible with most standard 58 mm baskets, tampers, distribution tools, and other aftermarket accessories commonly available in the U.S.

What type of boiler system does the Oscar II have, and is it suitable for making multiple milk drinks back-to-back?

The Oscar II is a heat-exchanger (HX) machine with a single boiler that supports simultaneous brewing and steaming. Its HX design and powerful steam output make it suitable for preparing multiple milk-based drinks in a row, which is ideal for small offices or home entertaining.

Does the Oscar II have temperature or PID control for brew water?

The Oscar II does not use a PID controller for brew temperature. It relies on a traditional pressurestat and heat-exchanger system, similar to many commercial espresso machines. Brew temperature is stable when the machine is properly warmed up and flushed, but it is not user-programmable to specific numerical temperatures.

How large is the water tank, and can I easily remove it for refilling and cleaning?

The pour-over Oscar II has an internal water reservoir of approximately 2–3 liters (varies slightly by region). The tank is removable from the top or back of the machine (depending on configuration), allowing you to lift it out for refilling, cleaning, and descaling as needed.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 30 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is your responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be your responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If your location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain your responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
