and hundreds of cafés, restaurants and offices.

The Obel 902MP Pulse is a compact manual on-demand espresso grinder with 50 mm flat steel burrs. A push-button pulse switch starts and stops grinding directly into the portafilter; unlike the 902M electronic model, the 902MP has no programmable dose buttons.

Product Features

Over 30 Grind Settings

Over 30 grind settings let you micro-adjust for different brew methods, roast levels, and single-origin variations. That range gives precise control when tuning dose and extraction for consistent cups.

50 mm Flat Burrs

50 mm flat burrs provide a consistent grind profile across espresso and longer extractions, giving the particle uniformity prosumers need to dial in shots. The larger, flat burrs are a step above consumer grinders for steady flow and repeatable results.

Low-Mounted Motor

The low mounted motor design reduces heat transfer to the beans during grinding, helping preserve delicate aromatics and prevent thermal drift during dosing. That thermal control matters when you’re chasing repeatable flavor in every shot.

Dual Hoppers & Seal-Lock Tab

Two hopper options—an 8.8-ounce and a 1.75-lb hopper—let you choose between small-batch freshness or larger capacity for busy service. The seal-lock hopper tab secures beans and helps retain freshness between pulls.

Manual Pulse Dosing

The 902MP grinds only while the pulse control is engaged, giving the user direct manual control without electronic dose presets.

Portafilter Support

Integrated portafilter support stabilizes the portafilter for hands-free dosing, reducing mess and speeding prep during routine pulls. Paired with the precise dosing system, it streamlines consistent workflow for serious home baristas or small cafés.

Our honest read

The Coffeeionado Take

Straight answers, before you buy.

Who's It For

  • Home espresso users who prefer manual dosing.
  • Small offices and hospitality counters with modest demand.
  • Bars using it for limited decaf or secondary duty.

It's Right For You If

  • You want a compact Italian grinder with direct manual control over each espresso dose.
  • You prefer simple pulse operation and do not need programmable timing or grind-by-weight.

Things to Consider

  • This 902MP Pulse model is manual; choose the 902M Junior On Demand if you want programmable single and double doses.
  • The standard hopper holds approximately 8.8 oz; a larger 1.75 lb hopper is optional.
  • Its 50 mm burr platform is intended for home or limited light-duty use rather than high-volume café service.

Our Take

The 902MP is the straightforward model in Obel’s compact Junior family: durable 50 mm burr hardware and direct pulse control without a programming layer. It works best for home, office, or limited secondary espresso duty.

Product FAQ

What type and size of burrs does the Obel Espresso Grinder come with?

The Obel Espresso Grinder uses commercial‑grade flat burrs designed specifically for espresso. The exact burr diameter (e.g., 58 mm, 64 mm, etc.) and material (hardened steel or similar) can vary by model, so please check the specifications on the product page for the precise size and material for your chosen Obel grinder.

How long do the burrs last, and how often do they need to be replaced?

Burr longevity depends on use and bean type, but with typical café or home use and proper cleaning, Obel flat burrs often last between 600–1,000+ pounds of coffee before needing replacement. Heavy commercial use or very dark/oily beans will shorten that range. If you notice slower grinding, more fines, or inconsistent shots even after cleaning, it may be time to replace the burrs.

Is the Obel Espresso Grinder stepless, and how precise is the grind adjustment?

Most Obel espresso grinders use a stepless (infinitely adjustable) grind collar that lets you micro‑adjust grind size for exact shot dialing. This gives you very fine control, but it also means you should make small, gradual adjustments while the grinder is running to avoid jamming. Check your specific model description to confirm whether the adjustment is stepless or stepped.

Can this grinder be used for both espresso and filter coffee?

Obel grinders are optimized for espresso, with fine adjustment in the espresso range. Many users do adjust coarser for moka pot or Aeropress, but frequent large jumps between espresso and filter can be less convenient on a stepless espresso‑focused grinder. If you want to grind daily for drip or pour‑over as well as espresso, consider whether you’re comfortable re‑dialing your espresso setting each time.

Is the Obel Espresso Grinder suitable for home use, a small café, or a restaurant bar?

The Obel Espresso Grinder line is designed for home use — serious home baristas who want commercial-grade build quality and consistency. Check the product’s recommended daily capacity and burr size for your specific model.

Will the Obel Espresso Grinder fit under standard kitchen cabinets?

Many Obel grinders are designed close to typical U.S. cabinet clearances (around 17–18 inches of height under cabinets), but final fit depends on your specific counter‑to‑cabinet measurement. Please compare the grinder’s listed height on the product page (including hopper) with your available clearance. If space is tight, you can often use a shorter aftermarket hopper or single‑dose without the full hopper.

Does the grinder allow hands‑free grinding directly into a portafilter?

Most Obel espresso grinders include a portafilter fork or holder that lets you grind directly into the portafilter for hands‑free operation once you’ve started the shot. Some models have adjustable forks to fit different portafilter sizes. Refer to your specific model’s features to confirm fork style and adjustability.

Does the Obel Espresso Grinder have timed or manual dosing, and can I program doses?

Depending on the model, Obel grinders offer either: (1) purely manual grinding controlled by an on/off switch, or (2) electronic timed dosing with one or more programmable buttons (e.g., single and double shot). Timed models let you set the grind time to match your desired dose by weight once dialed in. Check the control panel description for your chosen model to see the dosing options.

How does free installation work?

We want to make your purchase as smooth as possible and will pay the installation via rebate on commercial espresso machines. This includes commercial machines with more than 1 group head and 220V.

If the certified installer needed is over 1.5 hours away then we will pay for the installation call (and install up to the value suggested on page minus call fee). Travel will be paid by customer. Inquire if you have any questions about your location.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 90 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is the customer's responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be the customer's responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If the customer's location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain the customer's responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

What to Expect on Install Day

Getting a commercial espresso machine delivered is one thing. Getting it actually running — plumbed, programmed, and pulling properly — is another. Here's what happens when the technician comes out.

Before the appointment: Site preparation will be confirmed before technicians make it out. Once your machine ships, we'll coordinate scheduling with you and assign a local certified technician. Before they arrive, make sure your space is ready: the machine's permanent location should be determined, your water line and drain access should be in place, and your electrical supply should match the machine's requirements.

On the day The technician will handle the physical installation of the machine — positioning, water line connection, and drain setup. Once it's plumbed and powered, they'll run through the setup and basic programming: boiler pressure, shot parameters, and confirming that water flows correctly through the group heads and steam wands. Some basic training will be provided, they'll pull test shots to verify the machine is operating within spec.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
