Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

The Pinion is for the person who has realized that a grinder's primary job is to be reliable, not entertaining. You are building a setup that needs to transition from espresso to filter without a calibration crisis, and the 65 mm flat discs offer the clarity required when your palate has outpaced your current gear. This is a tool designed for the reality of heavy daily use, favoring a build that values longevity over planned obsolescence. It’s time to stop fighting your equipment and start using it.

Product Features

Modular Portafilter Holder

A modular front holder accommodates portafilters, so you can grind directly into the puck for cafe-style workflow and quick dose checks. The removable module also makes configuration straightforward when switching between tasks.

All-Purpose Grinding Range

The Pinion covers both espresso and filter coffee recipes, letting one machine serve every brew style in a high-end home or small café. That range simplifies workflow and reduces the need for multiple grinders when you’re dialing in recipes.

Included Dosing Cup

Pinion ships with a dosing cup to capture ground coffee cleanly and consistently, which speeds service and reduces waste during routine dialing. For prosumers, it’s a practical touch that improves repeatability and bench cleanliness.

65 mm Flat Discs

Pinion’s 65 mm flat discs, paired with its motor, deliver impressive output while maintaining particle consistency suitable for both espresso and filter. That burr size gives the throughput needed for busy periods without a bulky footprint.

Simple Grind Size Dial

A straightforward dial lets you adjust grind sizes quickly and repeatably, so dialing in a recipe is faster and less finicky. The tactile control is ideal for operators who want precision without complex menus.

Serviceable, Durable Construction

Designed with easy service access and durable materials, the Pinion reduces downtime and maintenance headaches for a small commercial or serious home setup. Simple access to components means routine servicing and parts replacement are faster and more cost-effective.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Home Espresso Enthusiasts — Single-dose workflow with zero retention and fast dial-in across multiple single origins. The 65mm flat steel burrs deliver consistency without the bulk of a commercial unit
  • Buyers Upgrading From Entry-Level Grinders — A step up in build quality and grind consistency for a dedicated home setup, without the footprint or price of a full commercial grinder
  • Precision-First Buyers — Swiss-made with the tolerances that reputation implies. If grind consistency is non-negotiable, this is where to look

It's Right For You If:

  • You want single-dose precision at home — 65mm flat steel burrs with zero retention so each dose is ground fresh, with no leftover grounds from your last bean.
  • You appreciate home-grade construction built to a high standard. 65mm flat steel burrs with the adjustability to fine-tune for different beans.

Things to Consider:

  • Notably compact for a commercial unit at 5.5kg, though it still needs a dedicated spot on your bar.
  • The 3100 RPM motor is fast, which means throughput — but also more heat generation per gram. For single-origin espresso where preserving delicate aromatics matters, lower RPM units have an edge.
  • No programmable dosing presets — you'll be manually timing or weighing each dose. Some baristas prefer this control; others find it adds a step to the workflow.

Our Take:

The Pinecone Swiss Pinion Coffee Grinder is a single-dose home grinder built for grind quality, not bar-level throughput. It's a strong choice if you want commercial-grade burrs and Swiss precision in a unit sized and priced for home use.

Product FAQ

What type and size of burrs does the Pinecone Swiss Pinion Coffee Grinder use, and are they suitable for espresso?

The Pinecone Swiss Pinion uses flat, Swiss‑engineered burrs specifically optimized for espresso grinding. The burrs are designed to produce a consistent, fine grind with a narrow particle size distribution, which helps with even extraction and better shot consistency. Burr size is large enough to support both single‑household use and moderate service environments like busy home bars and small specialty cafés.

How often do I need to replace the burrs, and how long will they typically last?

Burr life depends on usage, roast level, and how well the grinder is maintained. Under typical home espresso use (2–6 shots per day), the burrs can easily last several years before you notice a decline in grind consistency. In a light commercial setting with higher volume, they may need replacement sooner. As a general guide, many users replace espresso burrs somewhere around 800–1,200 kg of coffee. Regular cleaning and avoiding stones or very oily beans will help maximize burr life.

Is the Pinecone Swiss Pinion grinder stepless, and how precise is the grind adjustment for dialing in espresso?

Yes, the Pinecone Swiss Pinion features stepless grind adjustment. This means you are not limited to preset click positions and can make very fine incremental changes to dial in your espresso precisely. The adjustment mechanism is designed to be repeatable and stable, so once you find a setting that works for your beans and machine, it will stay consistent shot to shot.

Can this grinder handle both espresso and filter coffee, or is it mainly for espresso?

The grinder is optimized for espresso, with a focus on fine grind consistency and micro‑adjustment. It can be adjusted coarser for methods like moka pot and some filter brews, but its strength is in the espresso range. If you mainly brew espresso and occasionally use other methods, it can work as an all‑rounder; if you primarily brew filter coffee, a dedicated filter‑oriented grinder may be a better primary option.

Is the Pinecone Swiss Pinion grinder suitable for home use, small cafés, or larger restaurant settings?

The Pinecone Swiss Pinion is best suited for serious home baristas and small, quality‑focused operations such as low‑volume cafés, coffee carts, and tasting bars. It is built for consistent, repeatable espresso grinding and can comfortably keep up with a steady flow of drinks. For very high‑volume environments with continuous back‑to‑back orders, a heavy‑duty high‑throughput grinder may be more appropriate.

Is the grinder compatible with standard kitchen counters, and will it fit under most cabinets?

The grinder’s footprint is compact and designed with home counters in mind. Its overall height is low enough to fit under most standard U.S. kitchen cabinets, and the depth is suitable for typical countertop overhangs. If you have particularly low cabinets or a built‑in shelf, checking your available height against the grinder’s published dimensions is recommended before purchase.

Does the Pinecone Swiss Pinion offer hands‑free operation and dosing options (timed or manual)?

It is a manual, on-demand grinder without programmable timed dosing — you control the dose by hand for full control over each grind.

How fast is the grinder, and can it keep up with making multiple espresso drinks in a row?

The Pinecone Swiss Pinion provides a fast enough grind time for typical double‑shot doses while prioritizing grind quality and low retention. It can comfortably handle multiple back‑to‑back drinks, making it suitable for busy home mornings or small service environments. Actual grind time per dose will vary depending on your chosen grind size and dose weight, but it’s designed to avoid bottlenecking drink preparation.

How does free installation work?

We want to make your purchase as smooth as possible and will pay the installation via rebate on commercial espresso machines. This includes commercial machines with more than 1 group head and 220V.

If the certified installer needed is over 1.5 hours away then we will pay for the installation call (and install up to the value suggested on page minus call fee). Travel will be paid by customer. Inquire if you have any questions about your location.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 30 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is your responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be your responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If your location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain your responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
