Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

Your café’s reputation rests on the hundredth shot of a morning rush just as much as the first, and the Rocket R9 exists to ensure those two drinks are identical. This is the machine you install when you are done making excuses for temperature drift during peak hours. Selectable power ratings mean the machine adapts to your shop’s actual electrical limits, providing thermal stability without forcing a utility overhaul. It is the centerpiece of a program that treats consistency as the only metric that actually matters to a customer.

Product Features

Dual Independent Group Heads

Each of the R9's two groups runs its own 1.9 L stainless steel coffee boiler, independent PID temperature control, and shot timer — so group one's temperature setting has no effect on group two. That architecture lets two baristas dial in different coffees simultaneously and keeps extraction consistent regardless of which group is in use.

Multi-Boiler Temperature Control

Multi-Boiler architecture gives separate boiler circuits for brew and steam, so brewing temperature and steam pressure don't interfere during busy service. The Multi-Boiler design supports consistent extraction and reliable steam on demand—critical for back-to-back café throughput.

9 L Steam Boiler

The R9 2 Group runs a 9 L main steam boiler equipped with precision pressure transducers that monitor and regulate steam pressure in real time. That capacity handles sustained milk steaming during peak service without pressure sag — the transducers keep output consistent rather than leaving recovery to chance.

5900 W / 220 V Power Spec

The R9 2 Group operates on 220 V and draws 5900 W at 30 A — specifications that align with standard commercial panel configurations and simplify installation planning. Confirm your site's dedicated circuit before ordering; Coffeeionado covers professional installation within the continental USA.

220 V Commercial Compatibility

Built for 220 V supply, the R9 is suited to commercial electrical setups commonly found in cafés and restaurants. That compatibility ensures stable operation under the demands of a busy service environment.

NSF Certified

NSF certification confirms the machine meets established sanitation and safety standards required in foodservice operations. That makes it straightforward to satisfy health-code expectations in commercial settings.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Established cafés scaling up — Multi-boiler architecture and saturated group heads deliver the thermal stability needed when every shot in a 300-drink morning must taste the same
  • Specialty coffee programs focused on origin transparency — Adjustable pre-infusion and independent PID per group let you dial profiles for different beans without compromising the house espresso
  • Roasteries serving wholesale customers in-house — Selectable power ratings mean the machine adapts to your existing electrical setup, avoiding costly utility upgrades

Right For You If:

  • You are pulling 150–300 drinks a day and temperature drift during peak hours is costing you consistency.
  • Your baristas are trained and you want them to program and reproduce recipes with precision, not just push buttons.
  • You have 220–240V power available and want a machine that will not require an electrical overhaul to install.

Things to Consider:

  • Warm-up takes 40-75 minutes — the multi-boiler system needs time to stabilize, so factor this into your morning prep routine.
  • The saturated group design excels at thermal stability but is heavier and more complex to service than an E61 or thermosiphon group — budget for a technician familiar with Rocket commercial units.
  • No integrated shot timers on this model — if your workflow relies on visual extraction timing, you will need external timers or a scale-based system.

Our Take:

The R9 is Rocket Espresso doing what they do best: building a machine that disappears into the workflow so the coffee can be the focus. If your café has outgrown temperature-surfing and you need multi-boiler precision without the footprint of a three-group, this is the step up that actually pays for itself in consistency.

Automatic Espresso Machine

Automatic espresso machines have revolutionized the way baristas operate in coffee shops, allowing them to focus on other tasks while still producing high-quality espressos. With programmable doses, baristas can set specific measurements for each shot of espresso, ensuring consistency and efficiency in the brewing process. This feature not only helps save time but also maintains the quality and flavor of the final product. Meanwhile, they can also focus on other tasks such as taking money, steaming milk, or other work tasks.

Rocket Espresso Inside Machine

Multi-Boiler Technology

Independent coffee boilers ensure uncompromised temperature stability and give the ability to set different temperatures for each group. This commercial espresso machine ensures optimal steam productivity and temperature control with its independent and stainless-steel coffee boilers for each infusion group.

Saturated Group Heads for Thermostability

In saturated group head espresso machines, water is heated directly in the group head to maintain a stable temperature while brewing. This design differs from other group heads like E61 or semi-saturated types, which use separate water channels or thermosyphon systems. The saturated group head functions as part of the coffee boiler, keeping its metal components consistently hot for precise espresso extraction control. This direct water heating system offers more accurate temperature regulation, resulting in consistent espresso quality.

Stainless Steel Boilers

Stainless steel boilers in espresso machines offer exceptional durability and corrosion resistance. They are designed to withstand daily use without losing efficiency, even in high humidity or water-exposed environments. Despite having lower thermal conductivity than copper, stainless steel boilers require less material for construction. Additionally, they are compatible with descaling chemicals, making maintenance hassle-free for optimal performance.

Programmable Doses

Set single, double, long and long double espresso doses to perfectly repeat your favorite recipes. At the touch of a button, you can extract your programmed shot. Let your baristas concentrate on other tasks while the espresso maker automatically pulls your shots.

Large 9 Liter Main Boiler

This 9-liter commercial espresso machine features multiple boilers. These systems are designed to enhance precision and consistency in brewing espresso. Here are the key features:

  • Multi-boiler: In contrast to dual boiler machines that have separate boilers for brewing and steaming, multi-boiler machines employ a 1.9 L single boiler for each group.
  • Simultaneous Brewing and Steaming: Thanks to the multiple boiler system, baristas can brew espresso shots while simultaneously frothing milk for lattes or cappuccinos. This simultaneous operation is essential during peak hours in a commercial setting.
  • Advanced Temperature Control: Multi-boiler machines consistently maintain steady water temperature for brewing. The boiler located just behind the group ensures the group will receive the exact temperature it's set to that there is no loss between the main boiler and the group head.
  • Quick Recovery: With its large main boiler and multiple boiler system, this machine will be able to recover quickly and meet the most demanding rushes.

PID Temperature Control

PID, an abbreviation for Proportional-Integral-Derivative, is a feedback loop controller utilized in espresso machines to regulate and maintain the water temperature within the boiler. It means you can regulate the temperature on the machine.

With PID controller espresso machines, you ensure that the water temperature remains constant and ideal for producing high-quality espresso.

Shot Timer Built In

The presence of a shot timer on your espresso machine provides numerous benefits, particularly for individuals who enjoy making coffee at home. Consistency and precision are key factors in the extraction of espresso shots. By maintaining consistent timing with the help of a shot timer, you can ensure that each shot is extracted for the same duration, leading to a well-balanced and flavorful cup of coffee.

No-Burn Steam Wands

With these revolutionary features, you can froth and steam milk without any concerns about getting burned. The cool touch technology ensures that the wand remains at a safe temperature, allowing you to focus on creating the perfect espresso drinks without any worries.

Advanced Temperature Stability

One of the standout features of the Rocket R9 commercial espresso machine is its advanced temperature stability, which ensures optimal brewing conditions for consistent and high-quality espresso extraction.

Water Quality & Machine Protection

Proper water quality is essential for optimal espresso extraction and long-term machine health. Use the guidelines below to ensure your machine performs at its best.

Parameter Ideal Range Why It Matters
Total Hardness 50-170 ppm Prevents scale buildup while maintaining flavor
pH Level 6.5-7.5 Ensures balanced extraction and protects internal components
Chlorine 0 ppm Eliminates off-flavors and prevents corrosion
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) 70-150 ppm Optimal mineral content for extraction and taste
Total Alkalinity ~7.0 Stabilizes acidity and extraction
Chloride 0-28 ppm Prevents corrosion (especially in steel boilers)

Important Note

Always refer to your machine's manual for specific water quality recommendations and maintenance schedules.

Advisory

Install a water filtration system to maintain consistent water quality and extend the life of your espresso machine.

What This Means

  • Water that’s too hard → scale buildup, reduced performance
  • Water that’s too soft → flat, dull espresso
  • Improper water can damage internal components over time

Machine-Specific Considerations

  • Some machines (especially with stainless steel boilers) require stricter limits on chlorides

Product FAQ

Does the Rocket Espresso R9 2 Group have a rotary pump, and how loud is it during operation?

Yes. The Rocket Espresso R9 2 Group uses commercial-grade rotary pumps, which are significantly quieter than vibratory pumps. When properly installed and plumbed, noise is mainly from grinding and steaming rather than the pump itself.

Is the R9 2 Group a direct‑plumb only machine, or can it use a water tank?

The Rocket Espresso R9 2 Group is a commercial machine designed for direct plumbing only. It does not have an internal water reservoir. It must be connected to a pressurized water line and a suitable drain according to local plumbing codes.

Does the R9 2 Group offer pre‑infusion, and is it adjustable?

Yes. The Rocket R9 2 Group includes pre‑infusion via its saturated group design and programmable volumetric controls. Pre‑infusion time and brew parameters can be adjusted through the machine’s control interface, allowing you to fine‑tune extraction for different coffees.

Are the steam wands on the Rocket R9 2 Group cool‑touch or no‑burn?

Yes. The R9 2 Group is equipped with cool‑touch (no‑burn) steam wands. These wands remain relatively cool on the exterior during use, helping prevent burns and making milk residue less likely to bake onto the wand surface.

Is the R9 2 Group a dual boiler machine, and are brew and steam temperatures independently controlled?

Yes. The Rocket R9 2 Group is a multi‑boiler system: each group has its own dedicated brew boiler and there is a separate steam boiler. Temperatures for the brew boilers and steam boiler are independently controlled via PID, allowing precise temperature stability and profiling for each group.

Does the machine have volumetric dosing, or is it manual only?

The Rocket R9 2 Group is a volumetric commercial espresso machine. Each group has programmable shot volumes (multiple dose buttons plus a manual/continuous button), allowing baristas to save consistent shot volumes while still having the option to run shots manually when desired.

What type of power and electrical requirements does the Rocket R9 2 Group have for use in the US?

For the US, the R9 2 Group typically requires a dedicated 208–240V circuit (single or three‑phase depending on the specific configuration) with adequate amperage as specified in the technical manual. A licensed electrician should install a dedicated breaker and outlet that meet local code and the machine’s rated wattage.

What kind of water filtration or treatment is recommended for the R9 2 Group to maintain warranty coverage?

Rocket and most US distributors require a proper inline water filtration and softening system sized for commercial use in order to protect the boilers and maintain warranty coverage. Water should generally be within recommended ranges for hardness, alkalinity, and TDS. Many cafés use a multi‑stage filter with softening or a blending system (e.g., carbon filtration plus scale control). Always check the seller’s and Rocket’s current water specs and have your local water tested before installation.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 30 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is your responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be your responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If your location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain your responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
