Powering Hundreds of Businesses Including:

The La Nera runs on a heat exchanger system — brew and steam at the same time, no waiting for a single boiler to recover. The 5L copper boiler, rotary pump, and four programmable volumetric doses give you consistent extraction and fast milk service in a compact 1-group footprint that direct-plumbs to your water line. For a small café or restaurant coffee program that needs professional HX performance without the size or cost of a two-group machine, this is the step up

Product Features

Italy’s #1 Manufacturer

Gaggia is described as Italy’s #1 espresso machine manufacturer, a market position that signals widespread adoption and trust among professional users. That scale supports parts availability and familiarity for barista teams across locations.

Italian Espresso Heritage

Founded in the 1930s and producing its first espresso machine in 1948, Gaggia brings decades of Milanese espresso tradition to every machine. For café operators that lineage represents design and operational lessons learned in real bar environments.

High-End Materials & Build

Gaggia emphasizes using high-end materials and attention to detail when building its machines, which contributes to durability under continuous service. Robust construction helps reduce downtime and simplifies routine maintenance in busy cafés and restaurants.

Multiple Machine Types

The Gaggia lineup explicitly includes semi-automatic, super-automatic, and single-serve coffee machines, letting operators choose the workflow that fits their service model. Whether you need hand-crafted shots or automated throughput, there’s a machine type in the range tailored to that need.

Commercial Voltage Options

Models in Gaggia’s range are offered across common voltages—examples include 120V, 208V, and 220V—so machines can be matched to local electrical standards. That flexibility reduces installation complexity when deploying equipment in different markets or commercial settings.

ETL Certified, 1-Group Footprint

ETL certification confirms the La Nera meets established US safety and sanitation standards for commercial foodservice. The single-group layout keeps the footprint compact — suited to cafés, restaurants, and catering setups that need commercial-grade performance without the counter commitment of a two-group machine.

The Coffeeionado Take

Who's It For:

  • Small café operators and restaurant coffee programs — Rotary pump and direct plumbing deliver the consistency and uptime a professional service demands
  • New café operators building a first coffee station — The 15–20 minute heat-up and commercial-grade group head get you serving quickly
  • Specialty food service operators (bakeries, dessert shops) — The machine handles a coffee program that complements your primary menu without requiring a dedicated barista

Right For You If:

  • Your daily shot count is 100–150 and you need fast heat-up and reliable back-to-back performance.
  • You have direct plumbing available and want a machine that stays on during service hours.
  • Your team needs a machine that handles short bursts of 10–15 minutes without drama.

Things to Consider:

  • Handles short bursts well but struggles with sustained hour-long queues — plan service flow and recovery windows.
  • The Gaggia proprietary group head is robust but less common than E61, which may affect parts availability in some markets.
  • Direct plumbing is required — no reservoir option, so plumbing and water filtration are part of the install.

Our Take:

The Gaggia La Nera is a proper Italian commercial single-group with a rotary pump and a 20-30 minute heat-up — the kind of machine that gets out of your way and lets you focus on the service. If you are running a small coffee program and need a machine that handles a morning rush without the complexity of a two-group, this is a machine built for daily service.

Paid Shipping

At Coffeeionado, we understand the frustration of hidden costs when making online purchases. This is why we're thrilled to announce that we now cover all shipping, freight, and handling charges for our premium coffee equipment within the continental USA. Gone are the days of considering additional fees as you add items to your cart.

Commercial Warranty

When investing in coffee equipment, peace of mind is worth its weight in gold. This warranty is your guarantee against manufacturer's defects and ensures that all parts and labor are covered for an entire year from the date of purchase. We understand that our customers deserve the very best.

Automatic Espresso Machine

Automatic espresso machines have revolutionized the way baristas operate in coffee shops, allowing them to focus on other tasks while still producing high-quality espressos. With programmable doses, baristas can set specific measurements for each shot of espresso, ensuring consistency and efficiency in the brewing process. This feature not only helps save time but also maintains the quality and flavor of the final product. Meanwhile, they can also focus on other tasks such as taking money, steaming milk, or other work tasks.

Stainless Steel Construction

This Italian commercial espresso machine crafted from stainless steel is renowned for its impressive durability and resistance to rust, wear, and staining. This exceptional material is renowned for its outstanding durability and remarkable resistance to corrosion, wear, and stains, making it the perfect addition to any coffee shop or home kitchen. With its impressive strength and longevity, you can trust that this espresso machine is built to handle the rigors of daily use without compromising performance.

Programmable Doses

Set single, double, long and long double espresso doses to perfectly repeat your favorite recipes. At the touch of a button, you can extract your programmed shot. Let your baristas concentrate on other tasks while the espresso maker automatically pulls your shots.

5L Copper Boiler

Copper boilers in espresso machines offer exceptional heat conductivity, ensuring rapid heating and faster recovery times for a quicker startup. Maintaining optimal brewing temperatures is essential for consistently good espresso, and copper's ability to uphold steady temperatures contributes to a consistent brew quality. Additionally, copper's natural antimicrobial properties make it a hygienic choice for espresso machines by inhibiting the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms.

Heat Exchanger 5 Liter Boiler

The 5-liter commercial espresso machine with a heat exchange boiler is a high-powered and efficient coffee-making tool specifically designed for professional use in cafes, restaurants, and other commercial environments. Here are the key features:

  • Boiler Capacity: The 5-liter boiler offers plenty of space for making multiple espresso shots and steaming milk at the same time. Heat exchange machines utilize a single boiler to handle both brewing and steaming tasks.
  • Heat Exchange: In contrast to dual boiler machines that have separate boilers for brewing and steaming, heat exchange machines employ a single boiler with a heat exchange tube. This tube allows hot water from the boiler to heat the brewing water as it flows through, ensuring consistent brewing temperature.
  • Simultaneous Brewing and Steaming: Thanks to the heat exchange system, baristas can brew espresso shots while simultaneously frothing milk for lattes or cappuccinos. This simultaneous operation is essential during peak hours in a commercial setting.
  • Temperature Control: Heat exchange machines maintain steady water temperature for brewing purposes. The boiler remains at steaming temperature, while the heat exchange tube ensures that the brewing water is heated as needed.

Single Manometer (Dual Gauge Display)

This commercial espresso machine is equipped with a single manometer featuring a dual gauge display, allowing you to monitor both brew and steam pressure in one convenient dial. The brew pressure gauge helps you fine-tune extraction by showing the resistance created by the coffee puck during brewing, while the steam pressure reading ensures the boiler maintains optimal steam levels for frothing.

This all-in-one gauge offers essential insight into your machine’s performance without taking up extra space on the control panel.

Quarter Turn Knobs

Simple quarter turns for comfortable on/off. And it doesn’t matter whether you prefer going left or right, it works both ways.

Eco-Friendly Machine

The machine's primary material for the contact surface is tempered glass, comprising 95% of its composition. This material is frequently touched by end users and offers various benefits. Tempered glass is not only fully recyclable but also facilitates effortless cleaning and sanitization using standard cleaning and disinfecting products. It resists the adhesion of dirt and external substances, boasts exceptional durability and strength, requires minimal maintenance, and can withstand high temperatures effectively.

Hot Water Outlet

A hot water outlet is available for those who like their coffee a little longer or just prefer tea.

Water Quality & Machine Protection

Proper water quality is essential for optimal espresso extraction and long-term machine health. Use the guidelines below to ensure your machine performs at its best.

Parameter Ideal Range Why It Matters
Total Hardness 50-170 ppm Prevents scale buildup while maintaining flavor
pH Level 6.5-7.5 Ensures balanced extraction and protects internal components
Chlorine 0 ppm Eliminates off-flavors and prevents corrosion
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) 70-150 ppm Optimal mineral content for extraction and taste
Total Alkalinity ~7.0 Stabilizes acidity and extraction
Chloride 0-28 ppm Prevents corrosion (especially in steel boilers)

Important Note

Always refer to your machine's manual for specific water quality recommendations and maintenance schedules.

Advisory

Install a water filtration system to maintain consistent water quality and extend the life of your espresso machine.

What This Means

  • Water that’s too hard → scale buildup, reduced performance
  • Water that’s too soft → flat, dull espresso
  • Improper water can damage internal components over time

Machine-Specific Considerations

  • Some machines (especially with stainless steel boilers) require stricter limits on chlorides

Product FAQ

Does the Gaggia La Nera 1 Group have a rotary pump or a vibratory pump?

The Gaggia La Nera 1 Group is equipped with a commercial rotary pump. Rotary pumps are typically quieter and more durable than vibratory pumps and are designed for continuous use in a commercial or prosumer setting.

Is the Gaggia La Nera 1 Group an HX (heat exchanger) or dual boiler espresso machine?

The Gaggia La Nera 1 Group is a heat exchanger (HX) espresso machine. This means it uses a single boiler with a heat exchanger system, allowing you to brew espresso and steam milk at the same time, with stable brewing temperatures appropriate for commercial use.

Can the Gaggia La Nera 1 Group be directly plumbed to a water line, or does it have a built‑in water tank?

The Gaggia La Nera 1 Group is designed as a direct‑plumbed machine and connects to your water line for continuous water supply. It does not include a large internal reservoir like many home machines, so a fixed water connection and proper filtration are recommended.

Does the Gaggia La Nera 1 Group offer pre‑infusion, and is it adjustable?

Yes, the Gaggia La Nera 1 Group offers mechanical pre‑infusion. Water is gently introduced to the coffee puck at a lower pressure before full extraction, which helps improve consistency and flavor. The pre‑infusion is built into the group design; on most configurations it is not user‑programmable via a menu, but can be tuned during installation by a technician.

Are the steam and hot‑water wands on the Gaggia La Nera 1 Group cool‑touch or no‑burn?

The Gaggia La Nera 1 Group is equipped with anti‑burn (cool‑touch) steam wands. These wands stay significantly cooler to the touch than traditional single‑wall wands, reducing the risk of burns and making milk residue less likely to bake onto the surface. Always confirm the exact wand configuration with the seller, as it can vary by region or package.

Does the Gaggia La Nera 1 Group run on standard US electrical power, and what are the voltage and amperage requirements?

The Gaggia La Nera 1 Group is configured for 110-120V / 60Hz power in the US and requires a dedicated 20A circuit with a NEMA 5-20R receptacle (NEMA 5-20P plug). Professional installation by a licensed electrician is strongly recommended.

What kind of group head does the Gaggia La Nera 1 Group use, and is it compatible with standard 58 mm portafilters and baskets?

The Gaggia La Nera 1 Group uses a standard commercial group head compatible with industry-standard 58mm portafilters and baskets, so third-party baskets, bottomless portafilters, and common accessories all fit without issue.

Does the Gaggia La Nera 1 Group have PID temperature control, and how is brew temperature managed?

The Gaggia La Nera 1 Group manages temperature using a commercial pressurestat and boiler thermostat system rather than a user‑facing PID display. Boiler pressure (and thus temperature) is set internally by a technician at installation. While there is no front‑panel PID screen, the HX system and pressure control provide stable, repeatable brew temperatures when properly calibrated.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 30 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is your responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be your responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If your location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain your responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
