and hundreds of cafés, restaurants and offices.

The Redwood is for the roastery that has moved beyond grinding a few bags at a time. At up to 400 lb/hour, its 120 mm flat discs, 66 lb hopper and repeatable digital settings help turn bulk grinding into a controlled production process. RS485 integration makes it useful as a stand-alone workhorse or as part of a packaging or capsule line. The difference isn't just speed—it's control over the entire workflow.

Product Features

120 mm Flat Discs

The 120 mm flat grinding discs span Turkish-fine to cold-brew coarse settings. Pinecone rates the discs for approximately 44,000–55,000 lb of coffee before replacement, depending on wear and use.

Up to 400 lb/Hour

At up to 6.6 lb/minute and roughly 400 lb/hour under laboratory conditions, the Redwood is built for substantial bulk output. Actual rates vary with bean density, roast, grind fineness and duty-cycle pauses.

66 lb Production Hopper

The standard 66.1 lb hopper supports longer production runs and fewer interruptions for refilling. A smaller 22 lb hopper accessory is available for operations that need a different feeding arrangement.

RS485 Line Integration

RS485 communications provide remote start/stop, grind-size setpoint control, and operating statistics and alarms for production lines. Digital micrometric adjustment makes grinding changeovers more repeatable.

Dual Active Cooling

Independent fans separately cool the motor/driver and the grinding module. The brushless DC drive reduces unwanted heat buildup during demanding production cycles.

Modular Grinding Assembly

Pinecone's modular grinding house makes routine cleaning and service access more practical. The machine is designed for industrial uptime without requiring three-phase electrical service.

Our honest read

The Coffeeionado Take

Straight answers, before you buy.

Who's It For

  • Roasteries and wholesale operations producing large volumes of pre-ground coffee.
  • Coffee co-packers supplying bags, capsules or other packaged formats.
  • Production teams seeking digital grind control and integration with their packaging line.

It's Right For You If

  • You're grinding enough coffee that a retail-shop grinder slows production.
  • You want up to 400 lb/hour manufacturer-rated throughput with a large bean hopper.
  • You need repeatable grind settings and RS485 line control without three-phase electrical service.

Things to Consider

  • The 400 lb/hour figure is a laboratory-rated maximum, not a guaranteed all-shift average.
  • The manufacturer's manual specifies a maximum 180-minute run followed by a 10-minute pause.
  • For U.S. installation, verify the exact 110/120 V or 220/240 V configuration, supplied plug and circuit requirements before purchase.
  • Confirm whether your quote includes the stand/frame and preferred hopper size, along with freight and site-clearance requirements.

Our Take

The Redwood is a production grinder—not a larger bar-top espresso grinder. We'd keep a PK100 or similar shop grinder for individual retail bags and cupping, but choose Redwood when the grinding stage feeds a wholesale or packaging workflow. Its appeal is the combination of high rated throughput, digital repeatability, RS485 controls and single-phase power. Build your production plan around the required breaks and your actual grind profiles, not a theoretical shift-long maximum.

Pinecone Redwood Industrial Coffee Grinder

When your roastery starts measuring ground coffee by the pallet, a shop grinder is no longer the answer. The Pinecone Swiss Redwood is built for businesses that grind coffee as part of production: wholesale bagging, retail packaging, and capsule-filling lines. With 120 mm flat grinding discs, an impressive 400 lb/hour maximum output, and digital control that takes the guesswork out of repeat runs, the Redwood turns grinding from a bottleneck into a dependable part of your operation.

Unlike many industrial grinders, the Redwood operates on single-phase power. That makes serious bulk capacity accessible to American roasteries and production facilities without requiring three-phase electrical service.

2-Year Parts Warranty

Commercial equipment is an investment in your business, and it should be protected. Your Redwood purchase from Coffeeionado includes a 24-month parts warranty covering manufacturer defects. We're here to support your equipment long after it's installed.

Free Shipping in the Continental U.S.

We cover shipping and freight for your Redwood within the contiguous United States, so there's no surprise freight charge added to your equipment investment. The Redwood is a special-order machine with a 4–6 week lead time.

400 Pounds an Hour Changes the Way You Produce

Grinding a few pounds for a retail customer is one thing. Preparing hundreds of pounds for a packaging run is another. The Redwood delivers up to 6.6 lb of coffee per minute—about 400 lb per hour at its manufacturer-rated maximum. Its 66 lb bean hopper keeps coffee feeding steadily through longer production runs, reducing interruptions between batches.

Just as importantly, the Redwood handles grind settings from Turkish-fine to cold-brew coarse. That gives wholesale roasters and co-packers one platform for a broad range of finished coffee products. Output naturally changes with grind fineness, bean density, and roast style, but the machine's purpose is clear: reliable high-volume production.

120 mm Flat Grinding Discs Built for the Long Haul

The Redwood uses 120 mm flat grinding discs engineered for particle consistency across a wide grind range. Pinecone rates disc life at approximately 44,000–55,000 lb of coffee, helping keep replacement intervals predictable for production teams. That kind of service life matters when a grinder is an everyday part of your business rather than an occasional tool.

Digital Grind Control and RS485 Automation

The Redwood is more than a powerful motor attached to large burrs. Its digital micrometric grind adjustment makes settings precise and repeatable, particularly when changing between products or returning to a previous production recipe.

With built-in RS485 connectivity, the grinder can work as part of an automated line. Remote start and stop, grind-size setpoints, operating statistics, and alarms can be managed through the line's control system. The Redwood also operates as a stand-alone industrial grinder, giving growing roasteries room to scale without replacing their core grinding equipment.

Low-Heat Grinding for Longer Production Runs

Grinding generates heat, and managing it becomes increasingly important at industrial volumes. Pinecone pairs a high-efficiency brushless DC motor with two independent cooling fans: one for the motor and driver, and another for the grinding module. This design helps limit heat buildup while the machine works through demanding batches.

The Redwood's maximum permitted operating cycle is 180 minutes on, followed by a 10-minute pause. Its modular grinding assembly also makes cleaning and service more straightforward—an important consideration when production downtime affects the rest of your business.

American-Market Single-Phase Power

One of Redwood's biggest advantages is what it doesn't require: three-phase electricity. Designed for 110–240V, 60Hz single-phase operation in the U.S. market and rated at 1,500 watts, it brings industrial grinding capacity to businesses operating with single-phase electrical service. That's a major distinction from many traditional production grinders.

About Pinecone Swiss

Founded in St. Gallen, Switzerland, Pinecone Swiss was created to bring professional-grade Swiss grinder engineering to more coffee businesses. Its team draws on decades of experience in the specialty coffee equipment industry, focusing on precision, practical controls, and equipment designed to be serviced rather than discarded.

That philosophy comes through in the Redwood: a high-capacity, digitally controlled grinder with an accessible modular design and the flexibility to operate independently or within a larger production system.

The Coffeeionado Take

We wouldn't put a Redwood behind a café counter to grind the occasional bag of beans. That's what a shop grinder is for. Redwood belongs in a roastery or production facility where grinding is a business-critical step—especially one packaging ground coffee or producing capsules at scale.

What makes it compelling isn't just the 400 lb/hour headline. It's the combination of single-phase power, a 66 lb hopper, precise digital adjustment, and RS485 integration. For an American roaster ready to move beyond retail grinding equipment, the Redwood delivers the capacity and control to take that next step.

Product FAQ

How much coffee can the Pinecone Redwood grind per hour?

Pinecone's current Redwood specification rates output at up to 6.6 lb per minute, approximately 400 lb per hour, under laboratory conditions. This is a maximum rated rate, not a guaranteed hourly production yield; grind fineness, coffee characteristics and operating pauses affect real output.

Does the Redwood require three-phase power in the United States?

No. The Redwood operates on U.S. 60Hz single-phase power and is rated for 110–240V input at 1,500W. It brings industrial-scale bulk grinding to roasteries without requiring three-phase electrical service.

Can Redwood integrate with coffee capsule or packaging lines?

Yes. Its built-in RS485 interface provides remote start/stop, digital grind-size setpoints, operating statistics, and alarms. This allows the Redwood to act as a controlled grinding stage in automated coffee packaging and capsule-production lines.

What grind sizes does the Pinecone Redwood support?

Pinecone lists a wide adjustment range from Turkish-fine through cold-brew coarse. Digital micrometric adjustment makes it easier to return to precise settings for repeat production batches and recipe changeovers.

What is the Redwood's recommended operating cycle?

The Redwood manual lists a maximum of 180 minutes of operation followed by a 10-minute pause. This requirement is separate from its up-to-400-lb/hour lab-rated throughput, so plan daily output around the duty cycle and your actual coffee and grind settings.

How large is the Pinecone Redwood's hopper?

The Redwood's standard hopper holds 66.1 lb of whole-bean coffee for extended bulk grinding. Pinecone also offers a smaller 22 lb accessory hopper for alternative feeding setups.

How long do the 120 mm grinding discs last?

Pinecone publishes an estimated disc life of 20–25 metric tons, equivalent to approximately 44,000–55,000 lb of ground coffee. This is an estimated wear life, not a guarantee; bean characteristics and operating conditions affect replacement intervals.

How does the Redwood control grinding heat?

A high-efficiency brushless DC motor and two independent fans help limit heat buildup. One fan cools the motor/driver and another cools the grinding module. The design supports extended production runs but does not eliminate the manufacturer-specified operating pauses.

How does free installation work?

We want to make your purchase as smooth as possible and will pay the installation via rebate on commercial espresso machines. This includes commercial machines with more than 1 group head and 220V.

If the certified installer needed is over 1.5 hours away then we will pay for the installation call (and install up to the value suggested on page minus call fee). Travel will be paid by customer. Inquire if you have any questions about your location.

Please note, any discounts subject to void the paid installation offer.

At Coffeeionado, professional installation is included with qualifying espresso machine purchases. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible — from coordinating the technician to getting your machine up and running on day one.

Which Machines Qualify

Free professional installation is included with all espresso machines of 2 groups or more where indicated on the product listing. This policy applies to espresso machines only and does not cover other coffee equipment such as grinders, brewers, or accessories.

If you are unsure whether your machine qualifies, contact us before purchasing and we'll confirm.

What's Included

  • Travel and labor costs for installation within the technician's service area (up to 2 hours of travel)
  • Setup, basic programming, and commissioning of the equipment
  • Scheduling during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
  • Associated taxes and fees related to the installation itself

Installation must be completed within 90 days of delivery of the equipment. The installation benefit lapses after this window and cannot be reinstated.

How Installation Is Arranged

Depending on your purchase, installation is handled one of two ways:

Arranged directly — In many cases, Coffeeionado or the manufacturer will coordinate and pay the technician on your behalf. We will contact you after your order is processed to schedule the visit.

Reimbursement — In some cases, you may be asked to arrange the installation locally using an authorized technician and submit a rebate form for reimbursement. Once approved, the covered amount will be refunded to the original payment method used for your order.

We will confirm which arrangement applies to your purchase at the time of order confirmation. If you have questions before purchasing, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What's Not Included

The following are outside the scope of the installation policy and remain the customer's responsibility:

  • Travel or callout costs beyond the first 2 hours of the technician's travel time — if your location falls outside the local service area, the overage is the customer's responsibility
  • Water filtration systems and installation materials — including plumbing fittings, tubing, plugs, outlets, and any other ancillary components required to prepare the site
  • Electrical or plumbing work — site preparation must be completed before the technician arrives
  • Training on equipment operation — installation covers commissioning only, not barista or operational training
  • False start or callout fees if the technician arrives and the site is not ready for installation

Important: If a technician arrives and cannot complete the installation because the site is unprepared, you will be responsible for any callout or false start fee charged by the technician. However, your installation benefit remains intact — the visit will be rescheduled at no additional cost to your policy.

Water Filtration Requirement

Water filtration must be installed and operational before or at the time of installation. This is not optional — operating a commercial espresso machine without proper filtration will void the manufacturer's warranty. If filtration is not in place at the time of the technician's visit, installation may need to be rescheduled and the callout fee will be the customer's responsibility.

If you need guidance on water filtration requirements for your machine, contact us before scheduling your installation.

Service Area

Installation coverage is tied to the manufacturer's authorized technician service area, generally within a 1.5-hour radius of the nearest certified technician. If the customer's location falls outside this area, Coffeeionado will make reasonable efforts to arrange a local authorized technician, but travel costs beyond the 2-hour coverage limit remain the customer's responsibility.

Not sure if you're in a service area? Contact us before purchasing and we'll check your location.

What to Expect on Install Day

Getting a commercial espresso machine delivered is one thing. Getting it actually running — plumbed, programmed, and pulling properly — is another. Here's what happens when the technician comes out.

Before the appointment: Site preparation will be confirmed before technicians make it out. Once your machine ships, we'll coordinate scheduling with you and assign a local certified technician. Before they arrive, make sure your space is ready: the machine's permanent location should be determined, your water line and drain access should be in place, and your electrical supply should match the machine's requirements.

On the day The technician will handle the physical installation of the machine — positioning, water line connection, and drain setup. Once it's plumbed and powered, they'll run through the setup and basic programming: boiler pressure, shot parameters, and confirming that water flows correctly through the group heads and steam wands. Some basic training will be provided, they'll pull test shots to verify the machine is operating within spec.

After Installation

Once your machine is installed, we'll provide referrals for authorized service technicians in your area for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Coffeeionado offers lifetime support on all equipment we sell — we're here long after the install is done.

Governing Terms

This installation policy forms part of your agreement with Coffeeionado and is subject to our Terms of Sale and Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict, the Terms of Service governs.

Can I pick up the machine at your store?

We do not have a showroom or storefront for customer pickups, so orders cannot be picked up directly from us. That said, there is an exception for La Spaziale and La Pavoni products, you can contact us to arrange.

However, if you'd prefer, we can arrange to have your machine shipped to a local freight terminal/location for pickup instead. Let us know your city/state (or ZIP code), and we’d be happy to check the nearest terminal options for you.
